Casodex Prices UP

Just submitted hubby's Rx bill to be reimbursed by flexible spending plan - the portion of the bill not covered by insurance went up to $260 this month - ugh - I'm just glad we have health insurance.  I heard that the generic version might be available later this year.  I'm putting about  $500 a month into my flexible spending account for his medical bills - I'm hoping this will cover lupron shots etc.  How do others handle these expenses.

Tony you talkin to me? So is casodex outright cash price around $500 mo. now used to be around $350??? Probably half that price in Canada, alot of Michiganders cross the bridge here or use tunnel and go to Windsor and save atleast 50% is said. If you are paying it all, you would make the 20-50 mile drive depending where you live.

Way back the founder of Paactusa.org (Lyodd Ney) as a PCa patient had to go to Canada to get this type of drug (casodex) and got good results from it and it started a trend here in the USA, the push to help get it approved and legal here, a pioneer man for us to acknowledge.


No comment on Lupron or Zoladex, Eligard, Trelstar L.A. (These are your LHRH drugs, your ADT, and other names used in treatment lingo).

Casodex was $514 in June 08 when I purchased it. That was the best price I could find. No insurance. I heard it would go generic mid year this year. That does not necessarilly mean lower cost.

I heard the same thing, but it should be a significant price break for you. I am not sure if Wal-greens will carry it on their prescription drug plan, but if they do, just send me the savings...LOL

Funny you should mention Walgreens. I am a memeber of their discount club. My comment on the cost was based on an experience I had a few years back. My company insurance refused to pay for a cholesterol medication because a generic was available. So, I went to the generic as instructed and the cost went up by $40. The real kicker was that it did not work as well and caused me to have joint pain in my hands and knees. I went back to the patent medicine on my own.

Are you in the US? I have looked at ADC and they do have attractive pricing but there are the import issues to consider.

PS the patent cholesterol is supposed to go generic late this year or early 2010. 

I just refilled my Casodex and it was $1681 for 90 days, thanks be to God I had met my deductible in 2008 when I refilled. I to put money into an HSA to try and cover the co pays and deductibles. Since my diagnosis in 2007 I have spent out of pocket over $30,000. To think I use to dream of retirement. Now I am just thankful to be alive and pay my daily living expenses. Life is great though and I am not complaining.

I chose TAB because I was not convinced (and I'm still not convinced) about the efficacy of the usual RP, RT, or Brachy treatments. I was offered high dose brachy + RT but the 8-year survival was only 85% and the bio failure rate at 8-years was nearly 25%. Leibowitz claims better data for TAB.

So if a doc tells you this or that treatment is best or the so-called "gold standard" you know they are taking rubbish. As Leibowitz is fond of saying . . . "Everyone is entitled to their (wrong) opinion."

 

I went to see Dr Steven Tucker in Singapore and we had a long talk about the options and I then decided on TAB. He worked with Leibowitz on the ASCO study.

 

Please note there are serious side effects of TAB, including loss of libido. That might be a serious concern to you since you are only 50 years old. It is claimed that no effect is permanent and can be treated, but please be warned it's not an easy route to take. Talk to you more about this if you're interested.
