It is my understanding that P.S.A. has a 6 week half life. If my P.S.A. level was 1.49 and 6 weeks later it is 0.16 is it safe to say that 6 weeks from now I will have undetectable levels. Just curious

For starters, 1.49 divided in half is .745

living1963, if half life theory is accurate, and .75 or so is the halflife now, then your .16 now should be undetectable then, being much less than the current half of .75, which is .375. I don't know if the theory holds, but I sure hope it does for you. smilewinkgrin

from what my own dr. told me about psa half life, not sure it works quite the same way as being discussed here, but could be wrong.

In my particular case, I went into surgery with a 6.7 psa. 2 weeks after surgery, in my regular gp's testing, it had dropped to .8. A dramatic drop in 2 weeks, when the offending gland is removed. At 6 weeks it was .04.

PSA half life per Patrick Walsh, Guide to surviving Prostate Cancer is not over 3 days.  And confirmed by my urologist and radiation oncologist.
