my father is on hormone injections every three months for life . he is 69. is anyone else on ht for life . he was a gleason 8 after he had the prostate removed and then he had radiation for seven weeks as he was a t2c .he said he does be knackered for about a week after the injection . i jave read a lot about the hormone injections not working after a certain lenght of time . any information on this . his psa is 0

Sorrry about your father. He should also be on Casodex and Proscar along with the hormone shot as this will improve the effectiveness. Usually hormones are given intermittently on and off in about a yearly cycle as this makes them work longer. If you dad is not seeing a prostate oncologist for the treatments I would highly recommend that he does. Also read "Beating Prostate Cancer; Hormone Therapy and diet" by Dr Charles Snuffy Myers; it contains a lot of very useful information. If he is not on a regular strenth training with weights he must do this to avoid losing muscle mass and bone loss.
Many people have been on Hormones for over 10 years.

thanks for that response john t i will certainly read that book . ithe reason the doc said he was on the ht injection for life is because the cancer was aggressive . i feel better now that you know someone who has been on it for the last ten years . i will read back over your answer and chat to the doctor when my dad goes back
