How long do you have to take Viagra or other ED drugs?

My doctor put me on 25m of Viagra a day about 6 weeks post surgery.  In addition, once a week I take 50m.  Does this mean that you take the medicine forever or do the nerves heal enough that you only have to take the pill before sex.  Just curious what others are doing that have ED.

In my experience, my doctors told me that it may be permanent to use ED drugs, but in most cases folks won't require ED therapy after the first year. Unfortunately for me, I added additional therapies that have intercepted that healing plan. But it isn't the same for you as it was for me. As I tell all my brothers ~ stay positive.

The therapeutic use of the Sex drugs is usually for several months up to a year. But, you should probably expect to need drugs for sex from now on. You very well could end up being one of the lucky guys who don't really need ED drugs after the fist year or two. So, you could make that your goal. But realize that most men, PCa or not, will eventually need ED drugs. So don't consider it a defeat if you need them.

For me, it is entirely possible to get an erection without drugs, but it is so much easier and more like old times if I pop a viagra. Who needs the stress of worrying about it if a drug can help?

I would agree with Paul1959. As guys age, using Viagra or Cialis, is almost always required. Especially if you start taking hypertension drugs or other medications. Having used all three ED drugs and now on Injections, I prefer the Trimix Injection. In my case, it always works and with an extremely low dosage, I don't have to worry about side effects. I'm hard in 3 to 5 minutes every time.

Greetings, Rob.  I am now almost 15 months post surgery.  I take the ADC version of Levitra 2 times a week just for maintenance.  I plan to do this routinely until my doc tells me to stop and then we'll see what happens.  For what its worth, I find that the morning after I take one of the pills it is very easy to get an erection and it stays hard as long as I need it to.  3 to 4 days after taking a pill I can still get an erection but need much more stimulation (whos complaining) and it may not stay as hard for as long.  I got over real quickly any doubts about needing to take an ED Drug.  As my doc said, I want you to take it whether you need it or not so I'm taking it.  Order it from ADC and the cost is much less and just do what your doc says.  David

My doctor, still astounded at my natural lack of any ED after surgery, takes the opposite view, he says if it works that well on its own, there's no reason to introduce ED drugs or even a pump. Five month after my open surgery, with only one nerve side "saved", functioning basically like I did before. If anything, it seems like the hardness is even more intense at some times than at others. The big "O" is definitely longer, deeper, and better than before, never thought I would admit or say that, but its true. For all the other men still depressed about lack of ejaculation, once you can get your mind over that connection, it can be just as fulfilling or even more so than before, that part is just in our minds because it is only natural for a man to equate his orgasm with ejaulation. I still think about that part on rare occasions, but it feels too good right now, and its great never to have to deal with a mess after.

My Dr prescribed 1/2 dose of Viagra not only for ED but as a vasodilator to promote healing and minimize scarring. Since healing of nerve tissue takes years, that may be how long it's useful?
