blood in urine after surgery

Good morning .I had my surgery 5/13/09.the cath was removed 5/22/o9.dr.gave me 3 levaquin for infection.I have blood in my urine then  but was cleared up after antibiotic.they told me that some blood in urine is normal after surgery.it has been 15 days postop and I had blood in my urine after stopping the antibiotic .Is this a normal thing to have blood in urine after surgery?thanks

Based on my husband's experience, blood in urine for a week or so after surgery is not uncommon. Alot has been done to your "plumbing" and the healing process takes a couple of months. Scar tissues and small clots will pass through for a while. Your surgeon should have given you a fact sheet about what to look for after surgery. Our doctor told us blood in urine, no problem. Difficulty urinating is a problem as is a fever or increased pain. If you are concerned, I would suggest speaking with the surgeon.

I had surgery the first week of May. Catheter and staples removed May 21. For about 4 days after catheter removal, the very start of my urine stream had a small amount of blood every 3 or 4th pee...like the first couple drops were pink. My surgeon said this was not completely unusual and told me to limit activity. I am day 7 after catheter removal and it has cleared up.

I would ask your surgeon.

I still had a tinge of blood or small clots up until 3 weeks after surgery.  It's been fine since then.

I had blood in my urine after my bag was removed.  I had a sever bladder infection and they treated it with leviquin (if I'm spelling this wrong, I apologize)....several days later by bladder locked again, with the same infection. .  They did another culture and the leviquin didn't work for that type of bacteria, They put me on another antibiodic.    Long story short, in the end, I ended up on IV antibiodics for 2 days.....

I would get to your doctor right away and get another urine culture done, if you haven't already.

I had blood in my urine a month or so post-op and my Urologist told me it was to be expected, in some patients - because the "old blood" was sitting somewhere in a "pocket" and dislodged by my increasing movements. The physician's assistant told me they can tell, on first look, whether the blood in the urine is "old blood" or the result of new bleeding. If in doubt, pay a visit to the doctor's office.
