Just wondering for those of us who had prostate removed, when we do our follow-up PSA Tests,

do we need to follow the pre-test procedure as those with prosates of not having any sexual acitivty gving us a dry O...48 hours befor test...where it would elevate our PSA readings falsely.

I would imagine no, but just wanted to ask to make sure....

After surgery you don't have a prostate to raise any readings with. Go ahead and enjoy life as normal. Your PSA test will be what it is, unlike when you had a prostate that could change the reading with sex or bicycle riding etc.

There were studies that show PSA is affected by sex, however, the extent of the effect was very marginal, so even prior to surgery you could have enjoyed it...

Greetings, everyone.  Prior to surgery, I didn't know enough about cause and effect so didn't do anything to purposely affect my PSA reading.  After surgery, I dont' think it really matters. David

I think I read someplace on the moronsareus.com website that the best thing to do was to abstain from sex for two days before the blood test and then to make up for it after the test by making love to three women at once. I tried this idea out on my wife and she asked if my urologist was good at setting broken bones ….

No, there is probably nothing you can do now to affect the PSA test, but do make choices that will keep you out of the emergency room.

I would recommend no sexual activity for at least two days before any psa test, even after surgery.  After surgery, especially da vinci surgery, there is still prostate tissue left behind, especially if they are sparing the nerves and doing a good job of it. Vigorus sexual activity is going to impact your PSA reading, this I know from experience.   Ultra sensitive tests pick up the slightest deviations in PSA so why risk elevating it and set yourself up for a wall of worry, do the same thing before each test and use the same testing facility.  As was pointed out by an earlier poster, just make up for lost time after the test.  Good luck.

Post surgery, I've had three PSA tests now. I didn't think sexual activity would influence them so haven't kept any records, or taken any precautions. For my next test, I will make sure I abstain to see if that makes a difference.

Geezer, I like the three women idea, but I also don't like the idea of broken bones :-)

My doc said it shouldn't matter after (open) surgery since the prostate and supporting tissue is gone. Best of luck on your test!
