Started on Casodex a couple of days ago and will have a Lupron shot in a week. I don't drink a lot, but enjoy a few drings on a weekend. In a booklet for ADT I read that "alcohol may interfere with this treatment".  Called a doc and he said it might interfere with Casodex. Anybody has an opinion/experience with this? I would think it would be a significant hardship for those on long term ADT treatment, enough to be mentioned more prominantly? For now I am dry until further notice. Together with hormonal changes, this can really make me cranky

If the booklet AND my Doc said cut out the booze - they wouldn't have to tell me twice wink

Would be best not to drink at all during the times you are on those meds, but you have to make that choice, you do need them to work at their peak to benefit you, just my personal thought.

I guess you should have asked the doc if smoking pot would be ok instead? Just kidding.

It is not a huge sacrifice, but an unexpected one. I did not drink while on chemo - wine did not taste right and I am an only occasional drinker of beer. I dont smoke, so pot would be a poor option, but I did try hash once - it was too strong of an effect for my taste. Maybe you have to get used to it? ;-)

Does that mean if I ever start hormone therapy, I'll have to give up crack and meth?? smilewinkgrin

I hope that is not the case. My father has been on Lupron for over a year now and was on Casodex for a short time too. Giving up sex was asking a lot, giving up beer, red meat AND sex would be a deal breaker :) Thankfully, his PSA's have been undetectable on the Lupron and I pray they will remain that way.

AstraZeneca makes no mention in the dosage publications about alcohol consumption while on Casodex...see below...

Alcohol consumption while on ADT is no different than not on ADT.  Moderation is what my oncologist said.  I told him I ain't giving up my wine.  He said good but don't over consume it.

Probably at me. My attempt to inject a bit of humor into what can be such a serious subject seems to have fallen flat.
