Prostate Cancer Claims Another Good Man

Greetings, everyone.  My Dad just called to tell me his twin brother, my uncle, died this morning.  He was 81 and had a long and very fruitful life and is now pain free and in a better place.  If anyone ever doubts this disease is hereditary, my Dad, and 2 of my uncles had prostate cancer.  My dad had 2 other brothers who died fairly young (44 and 59) of other cancers. 

My Dad chose radiation for his treatment and is doing fine.  My older uncle had seeds implanted and died of another cancer at 84.  My uncle who died this morning had surgery but it had already spread prior to his surgery several years ago.  He had several good years but it spread to his back and liver. All 3 were diagnosed between age 70 and 75.

My son will be starting his PSA testing in another 4 years when he turns 35 (if not before)! I try and be an advocate to anyone I can to make sure everyone is getting regular exams and PSA tests.  This is even more important when there is a family history.  David

It always brings a tear to my eyes to read about the loss of someone due to this disease. My heart felt condolences to you and your family.

My condolences!! I will say a prayer today for him and your family. Please have your son tested soon, I was diagnosed a week after I turned 37. Similiar to your family it was prevelant in my family.

I am a regular at the anxiety forum. Just by chance I found this posting. I just wanted to tell you David, that your family is in my thoughts. Your uncle is no longer suffering and is in a better place! Take care and try not to worry about yourself or your son. Good luck!

Although I do not know you or your family personally, your loss is felt by all here. I am a twin myself, thankfully my brother is clear, but I have also lost family to PC.

Please accept my condolences at this most difficult of time.

Sorry about the death of your uncle. I alos have a lot of PC in my family. My Dad died from PCa at the age of 89. My brother also had PCa but he died of a heart attack. My prayers for you and the rest of your family. May he rest in peace.

Thanks again everyone.  Our family appreciates all of your great support.  It was a very affirming service - all three of his daughters and their spouses participated. 

I'll try to catch up on reading posts and responding as I can in the next few days.  You all are a great bunch of people who provide great support.  David

Sorry about your uncle's death. My sympathy and prayers to you and your whole family. I fully agree that PC seems to run in families. My dad and brother both had it although they died from other causes. I have 3 sons and worry about them all the time. They started taking their PSA at the age of 40.
