Has anbody looked into the Pomegranate Trial to lengthen Psa Doubling

So I am on the internet as usual looking around for all things PCa. I found a story which led to more looking around, about a clinical trial, Phase I, II and now III that finds that Pomegranate juice has been shown to lengthen the doubling times of PSA from 15 months to 54 months.

Has this been discussed before? If so I am sorry for bringing it up. If not I would like to discuss the merits of the study and the follow up findings. I found reference and notes on it on just about every major site for PCa, including the ACS, Cancer.gov and so on.

Let me know what you think. I'll post some of the links I found later this afternoon, in the meantime I am leaving for a root canal.

I think I'd rather have my prostate removed. Oh wait, never mind, did that already.

Look at my numbers. about the first of June I met with a Rad Oncologist. PSA was .13. He told me I should probably wait for one more psa test. I agreed. I also told my wife that I was going to stop drinking the pomegranite juice. I also had been doing a fairly good job with my diet (virtually no red meat). I let the "better" diet thing slide a bit. I told my wife that maybe I am masking the fact that the cancer is still there and with the pom/diet I am just slowing down the inevitable further treatment. Also, there is the insurance dilemna. I have the same job in the same location but with the third different ownership group in two years. Currently we have no benefits where I work. I am covered at this time by my wife's employer. This company is also up for sale.
Two months later my psa jumped to .2 from .13. I am now on my third week of radiation treatment. Had I waited six months to find out if I really needed further treatment I may not have had any insurance. Without insurance, radiation therapy probably would not have been available for me.
Going forward, my wife and I both are trying to maintain a healthier diet. We still like to eat out but try eat more sensible. I am back to drinking a bit of pomegranite juice every morning. I am not sure if the diet/pom thing does help with the pca. I do know that it can't hurt and there have been many who have been successful in battling pca with a change in diet. At least slowing it down.

Thank you for the feedback. I am probably worrying way too early, surgery was less than 3 weeks ago. But like everybody else with PCa, I want to everything I can not to have to go through anything else in the near future. I have watched my wife go through high dose chemo, radiation and stem cell transplant. I don't know if I have her kind of strength for that.

Thanks again, like you say hopefully it can't hurt. I started on the Pom a few days ago, I really want the first two PSA tests to come back good so I can take of break from the studying and worrying.

Pomegranate juice also known as 'weight lost juice'. it is a good heart healthy juice therefore will good for PCa as well. It is nothing hurt by drink it. I got some for my husband as part of his diet.

If you start on pomegranite juice make sure and get it pure. Read the labels. I found so many are diluted with other juices or have Sugar added. I found one store with 100% pure pomegranite juice and was drinking it everyday. THen I found some pomegranite extract capsules at the vitamin shop and switched to those since they were not as costly. I figure it can't hurt trying different healthy things in my diet.

I take 750 mgs-1gm a day of pomegranite extract (40% elagic acid); 1.2-2.4 gms/day of fish oil extract and 4 cups of green tea/day in my own "trial." My last (3 month) psa did not increase after increasing 40% during the six months before that. The NEXT psa test will tell a lot more.

Hi Sonny,
I know exactly how you feel. For me the dreaded PSA test comes up every three months. So far all of mine have been undetectable but that doesn't seem to help the anxiety when you know the next one is approaching. My next one is in about two weeks.
