hi folks, just wanted to find out if i am along the normal road to recovery. i am 5 months post robotic surgery. Just came back from a 2 mile walk after supper. my tena male guard was completly soaked thru to my jeans. when i walk in the morning i only fill the pad about 1/2 full. Dr.says this stress incontinence and will get better.I use about 4 pads per day.

Welcome my man. There is sure to be a bunch of folks along soon to answer you questions.

I am one of the blasphemed here in that I have been dry since my cath was removed. I am 5 weeks post surgery.

Totally normal. As the day goes on, the muscles weaken and at the end of the day things can just flow out freely. As you improve, you will notice pads will stay drier as the day goes on. Taking a walk after dinner is a recipe for flooding! but who cares? enjoy the walk, enjoy life, don't worry about wet jeans. In the scope of life, they are not a problem!

Buckeye,

There is no right or wrong answer here. Every path back to continence is a different tale. And yes, control of those muscles do tend to weaken by the end of a long day. Sounds like you are making pretty good progress. Good luck to you.

I started my recovery by being dry at night after the catheter was removed but used 2 pads during the day. S time passed, I was down to 1 pad, then a thin pad. Now I'm until 99% dry (except when I play golf). On those days, I use a thin liner (what women use) just to catch the once in while drop toward the end of my golf game. I did bio feedback with a therapist early on and that helped me in mastering the kegel exercies.

How are you doing at night? That is usually where you are dry first. Continence at the end of the day is generally the last to be achieved -- as is frequently said, avoid caffeine, alcohol, and carbonation. You are pretty much within the normal range -- and remember that it is a range. As EdC noted there is the biofeedback option to improve your kegels so if you are having real trouble with where you are now, ask your doctor about it.

Hi Buckeye,

I used more than 12 pads per day for the first 3 months after surgery. During that time I was able to maintain control as long as I was sitting or lying down.

After 3 months I noticed a gradual improvement until my current condition which is 1 pad per day with very little leakage. Just enough to need the pad.

I recently got over a cold but I noticed a setback in my incontinence for the duration of the cold. There are days I can get by with no protection but I have to be sure to relieve myself more often.

I'm still optimistic that I will become fully continent in the near future.
