Has anyone been treated by Dr. Ketan Badani from Columbia NYC?

My father has recently been diagnosed with PC, gleason 7, psa 4.0. After much reading, open radical prostectomy seems to be the best option for him but he is considering robotic with Dr. Ketan Badani from Columbia. I would like to know if anyone has been treated by him and if so, what are your reviews?

I had nerve sparing RP via davinci robotics at Columbia University on 29June09.  I would say you have made a very wise decision.

Luv, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital is a very highly rated hospital. This was one of the hospitals we considered. In my opinion, you and your dad have made a wise choice.

I interviewed him and liked him a lot. The doc at Col/Pres who does the best open is James McKiernan - he is also a really great guy - you will love him if you meet him. The only reason I did not use him was because David Samadi at Mt. Sinai could do me earlier. BTW- Badani took the spot that Samadi vacated when he left Columbia-Pres for Mt. Sinai. they all just play musical chairs in this city.
Where are you from? DO you live near NYC? I am just north of NYC in dutchess county.

Dr. Badani was my surgeon in late June 2009. Supposedly nerve sparing and no reason to be concerned, was only 53 at the time., no prior history of sexual problems, cancer caught very early and not in any problematic area. 

Results: I still suffer from incontinence and have to wear pads. I am still impotent, Viagra etc drugs don't do anything (comment removed - 142). I am extremely unhappy with the results and my wife and I continue to struggle with this outcome. Would never recommend.

I was treated by Dr. Badani this year and am VERY HAPPY.

It must be noted that one thing missing on these forums, and I have researched A LOT, is the individual. Everybody is different, and recovery is very different from person to person despite how well technically an operation is done.

I am 62 years old, and had good erection function prior to surgery as well. I had some BPH with urinary symptoms prior to surgery. My cancer was caught early, and I met with several prominent prostate cancer surgeons regarding treatment. Certainly any patient who has researched this surgery knows there are no guarantee's with recovery, especially for erection function.

I was pad free by 3 three weeks after surgery, and am able to have erections without pills or other help by 4 months post operative. It's not perfect, but I can't complain. I had a very good outcome, and I strongly believe that the surgeon matters. But I have spoken to many men, and everybody has different results, even with the same surgeon. That's the individual, and no surgery can control that. I certainly feel very luck to have done so well, and I thank Dr. Badani for that.

Most forums tend to allow those who have issues to speak out, but we never hear from those men who have no complaints. I typically do not post in such forums, but I think it's important to have the voice of those men who had done well that we don't hear from. I recommend him wholeheartedly, he is the best...

Me thinks that JS 2012 trolls the internet and responds whenever something comes up about the doctor in question.

See this a lot here. Nothing new. But a pretty strong endorsement post for a first time poster. YA THINK

The discussion of named physicians or institutions must be limited at the request of the owner of the site. Anything that is negative - let's just say that it should, and must, be avoided for legal reasons.

Other forums do not allow doctors to be named at all.

I agree with David & Sonny that the subject has drawn "new members" rather quickly, and that is suspicous.

In keeping with the wishes or the owner, I invite those who have the desire to give or receive information put their email in their profiles, and exchange anything of a less than neutral opinion via individual email.
