I am 70 years old. Prostate removed on November 20th via da vinci robotic at Virginia Mason in Seattle, WA. Quite a learing curve. Catheter was in 17 days. I am now tring to control my urine situation which seems very , very slow. However, I am, since Christmas morning gettng some results from the Kegel exercises although it seems hard to believe it will ever work. Glad it is mostly over. Gleason going in was 6, biopsy was a 7. I now have a portal hernia on my right side, which the surgeon says will "resolve itself". Will it? Or should I push for additional care. There is a lump associated with it. Any comments. Kamanao.

Hi Kamanao,
Welcome to "the club!"
You've found a good forum for discussion and comfort in our unique journey.
On the topic of portal hernias and robotic surgery, I don't think your condition is very common, but you can find more information at the link below:

As you give yourself a chance to heal, may wish to discuss any further concerns you have with your doctor and if not satisfied see another opinion.

Hello and welcome to HW, a new brother to meet.
The incontinence issues are just too person to person in scope and nature, depends how you were doing in that department pre-surgery, your age, and of course, your surgery itself.
Perhaps you can describe a bit more where you are in staying dry.
Hope you continue to heal well.

I am also new on this forum and find it very helpful. Don't find many 70 and older. Not sure why. They told me continence would take longer because of age. But I have been doing great. First 4 weeks after cath out, everything leaked out when I was up and about
. Then suddenly, started to dry up and after 4 more weeks don't need pads and only have a few drips. They say everyone is different, but don't give up hope... Don't know about
portal hernia..
