Hi All,

Confession time. . .been lurking since Aug!  I was worried about the e-mail being "public" but have not seen any problems with that and as others have mentioned I NEED to say THANKS to all the guys that have unknowingly helped us through this journey.  (Sonny, I feel like you are our friend tongue ).  I will post our story later after I type it up.

 

For now hoping for some input. . .hubby is 6 weeks post Da Vinci--cath removed 5 weeks ago--stream was slow at first due to being swollen--then nice strong stream 'bout knocked him overyeah has been having pain right inside tip at end of urination says it feels like something is in there, pain has gotten much better but still there, has passed a handful of clots and one "clear thing" (?) After returning to work at 4 weeks now stream is like the spray on a nozzle, he has to sit down to not go all over the place  (not a happy camper about going like a girl or 80 year old man) BTW he is 48

 

Anyone else experience this kind of pain or stream going back to spray?  Just need to be patient?   Thanks for any input and I will write up our story soon as we had a few bumps that I have not read here that may help others.  Glad to be able to more involved!

Welcome, lurker, glad you surfaced. I'd suggest a trip to the doc or urologist if this is long term. There's a possibility of several things that could be causing it, mostly obstruction inside the penis. Better to get it checked than to worry and wonder.

ITTGW, I agreee with James. Doc time should like there could be a bit of blockage in the tip. Should be easy to clear up. Good luck. Do keep us posted. As you know from reading we all are pulling for the 2 of you.

Trip to the urologist should fix that quickly. Friend of mine had a similar type of thing and said that he had a traumatic adhesion in his distal urethra. This occurred after a surgery in which he had an indwelling urinary catheter for only 3 days.  I tried to call him about the fix. I’m sure he said it was in the office and it involved a stainless steal instrument the size of a telephone pole (I may have just exercised some artistic creativity) and only “mild” discomfort. It may be something completely different, but as recommended above, call for an appointment. BTW welcome and good luck...Hero

Glad to have you here for your husband. Remember that he is still healing and so many issues may be transient.
Pain on urination can be a sign of infection -- easily checked in your doctor's office. I had stream issues with my stream about 25% of pre-op. Now I am up to about 60% and figure that I can live with that.

As my uro explained it, when he relocates the bladder he knows that the stream is going to enlarge as healing occurs -- the trick is not to make the initial opening so big that control becomes a problem later on.

I still have some aim problems and sit down to pee especially when tired. But I don't care -- Perhaps a difference between 48 and 68.

As others have said, always ask your doctor -- he would rather catch a problem early than have it get worse.

Yeah, I have been the king of blockages and catheters here, so I would strongly reccomend he get back in to see his urologist. May need to put a scope up him so he can determine what is slowing down or blocking here. You don't want to end up in the ER one night because of a total blockage.

Please keep us posted, and welcome here. Glad he is on the healing side.

Since my piping is so short now, I use our shower as a urinal. Every time I go it's like a box of chocolates - I never know what I'll get. Sometimes the stream runs down over my naughty bits and actually lands behind me - right in my underwear down around my ankles. Other times, I shoot sideways for a second or two until I get it under control. If I have to go in public, I must squat to pee. Unfortunately the mere act of squatting causes me to pee right into my underwear so it's always a surprise. I have pee pads and extra undies stashed everywhere. (I can't wait to see what happens when I am full body scanned at the airport.) about two weeks after the catheter came out I peed with such force I wanted to invite my friends over to watch. But that has fallen by the wayside - along with my modesty and sense of propriety.
My wife is a saint and always leaves the seat up. You might want to consider doing that too.

Hello there ITTW,

Welcome to the forum, glad you jumped on in and let us know you were here.

You have already received plenty of advice and answers about the urinary issue, so I don't feel the need to chime in on that.

However I do want to address the comment about your husband not being too happy about having to sit when he goes. Now there may be others here that have found the secret I have, but haven't come forward yet.

I discovered years ago the advantages in sitting at times. The best of which is in the late of night. There is nothing worse than being awakened in the middle of the night with the urge and then compounding it with "RETINA BURN", by turning on the lights to make sure you don't miss the target. We all can find our way through our house with the lights off, so making it to the john is no problem. By just sitting down there is no need for the lights, you don't have to become fully awake and alert and there is no problem in going back to sleep. Our wives have know this secret for years. I think they have taken a little guilty pleasure in not sharing it with us. I have heard a few giggles in my time when I have groaned when experiencing the retina burn. Or if they have shared it, we have been too manly or macho to accept the value and truth in it.

So tell you husband to relax, relinquish the manly stuff and enjoy. Going back to bed will be so much easier. And during the day it can always be viewed as the opportunity taken to enjoy a little much deserved break.

i have to agree with Sonny, just never sure at this point about my aim. That has been hampered by not being able to use ED meds due to other medical problems. A trip to his urologist might be the quickest route to ease his mind or locate a problem. Welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone for your welcome and advice.  As of today, since he is still passing clots and pain is less than it was, hubby wants to wait a bit.  But if it gets worse or lasts too long we will get an appt. 

 

I will share with him the positive sides you have shared about sitting down while going. Watching hubby go through this knowing the risks of side affects he took, I find I am closer to him and have gained so much respect for and pride in him.  This is such a character building experience!  I commend all of you.
