Anyone see 60 Minutes last night about Vets disability benefits? Wonder if that was a new episode and if not I wonder if those of us waiting on our disability for Prostate Cancer are in for a long wait.

It takes about 8 months at the best and could easily take up to a year. The good news is that payments are retroactive to the date you applied.

My county Vet's office is 100% handling my claim in-house, I was told anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, but as John said, its all retroactive to when it was filed. The vet's office where our Brother Sonny goes in Florida, told him there was over 900,000 vet disability claims in the pike (not all PC related ones of course).

I didnt see the program, any other major points made?

Yeppers...They said the system is screwed up - they're working had to fix it - and that they are sorry.

They showed a typical/small case file with about 6000 pages in it and talked about how hard it is to read the whole history.

They talked about guys having to prove they stepped on a BOMB in odrer to get relief for stress...Telling the VA that they paid for two fake legs didn't seem to help like you would think it would.

Sounds like the same VA I was dealing with when I got out in 1972. Kind of hoping things had improved since my days.

So the bad news is it may take a long while, which can really impact a lot of people who are in financial difficulty right now.

Knowing that I always look for the silver lining in the clouds, I should be able to pay off my house or at least my new RV, when the retro-active check arrives.

Just hope the dang system doesn't go belly up before I get my first check.

They brought up a motto, not sure who gave it to the VA, but it was "delay, deny and hope they die." But I realize with 2 wars going on there has got to be a big back log. They did get me in very quick for my physical so maybe it is improving.
