Constipation from Enlarged Prostate

Yep I had a mega-enlarged prostate and during the last few months before surgery and it was definitely somewhat obstructing bowel movements. (And i could feel it pressing into wall of colon too -- don't ask how).

My uro had originally told me (before we knew about the PCa) that I could have had a prostatectomy to remove it just for the BPH-hell-of-it. Anyone who has a RRP just for BPH alone must be a really pissed and sullen puppy for the rest of their life I will guess. (but at least no worries about future PCa and of course peeing like a 17 year old is really nice).

After my surgery and all this last year its been one wonderful bowel movement after another -- no troubles at all.

I am not sure if something like Avodart would have managed to reduce the prostate to a more manageable level or not -- never got that opportunity.

Wow that is a tough set of numbers!

And I don't suppose the prostate size is going to go down after radiation -- at least not for a while.

I don't suppose they (your Uro) would make an exception for you and do the surgery first anyways ?

No doubt you are also looking at reduced urinary flow etc already right? That too will
be aggravated by radiation.

Well, worth a shot with your Uro/Surgeon to see what they might think. I mean they do radiation after surgery all the time ... just only when they THOUGHT it was contained but wasn't.

In your case they would just know they would probably need radiation afterwards (unless of course you were lucky and they got it all with surgery because they knew they had to agressively go for everything ...).

Tricky stuff ....
