Dan, if your doctor wants to do a biopsy, go for it. I honestly can say I find having my teeth cleaned more stressful than the biopsy was, and I generally doze off when I'm getting my teeth cleaned.

My PSA was 1.5 and when the urologist suggested a biopsy I was enthusiastic. Either I didn't have PCa, in which case I could sleep like a log again, or I did have PCa and if I did, the only way to catch it early, was to catch it early. While I wasn't thrilled to get the call that I had positive cores I was very happy indeed that I'd had the test while I still had lots of time to be cured.

So, don't look at a biopsy as something to be feared, or to worry about. And, try not to fret the results. Positive, or negative, once you know it's a whole lot better than not knowing.

Dan -
- sounds like things are a bit more even for you and you can start to see the forest for the trees - keep breathing (as others have said) and learn as much as you can - bring note pad and wife/partner to your next doctor /uro meeting ( she will remember what you forget)

- and in case of another PSA test - sorry, but - for 3-4 days ( others may have more definite time lines) you have to avoid sex - with wife - with hand - with farm animals ( only kidding - humour helps) -strenuous sports / bike riding, etc that might involve the prostate and elevate your PSA
- even the act of having the bloodwork done after the doctor's DRE can elevate the PSA ...

- a biopsy will help you and the docs/uro see what is going on - not pleasant but you get through it .. also , read up on gleason levels - that will help understand the results...

Dan - Here's one more opinion that the biopsy is more uncomfortable than painful. Once you have one, you will know a whole lot more than you do now and can really start to plan what to do about it. Hang in there...it appears you have plenty of time to gather info and choose a treatment option if, in fact, you do have PC. Joe

Dan, good to hear the Cipro is bringing the PSA down. I have researched prostatitis, hoping that would be my diagnosis but I do not have any symptoms, normal size and DRE is normal. You seem to have some of the symptoms so it may be just that. As my friends here have told me, you do not have PC until the biopsy says you do and with a PSA over 4, biopsy is likely in order. So my best wishes for you and a negative result. My biopsy is scheduled for March 16th, results April 5th. As to the anxiety over this, my christmas was horrible, I told noone, in disbelief, completley distracted at work and at play, but the more I searched the internet, found this amazing discussion forum, had a long talk with my wife and some time went by, I kinda figured it out. Iit will be what it is, I will do what is necessary and live life to the fullest. I am actually looking forward to the biopsy (not), but the results, lets get it figured out one way or the other and take the action (if any). All the best Dan.

Hello St. Louis,

Fantastic news that your PSA results are lowering. I was told by my urologist to abstain from sexual relations for 2-3 days prior to drawing blood for lowest PSA results.
