Quiet Observer

Hello every buddy,

I am not a current Prostate Cancer survivor or patient (though seeing as the previous two generations of the family are riff with it, I'll be joining the ranks sooner or later) but I do happen to be the eldest son of a current patient. My father was diagnosed almost seven years ago after some pretty extreme circumstances. It had spread to the hip, femur, and a couple of vertebrae. He is in his second bout of Chemo and this time its indefinite.

With the basic background out of the way, I will get on with my question. I am currently working on a term-project for a capstone class in my degree; for this project I would like to quietly observe and study this community. As odd as it sounds, this being a public forum and all, I would like to ask permission to do so. I know a lot of information and conversations are sensitive and sometimes very personal or private; therefore, I will not intrude or disrupt this community and I have no intentions on publishing anything, so anonymity will be preserved.

Welcome to HealingWell. First I am sorry about your family history with prostate cancer. You already know that places you at high risk for the disease. But learning now is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't think most members would mind you using the site as a study subject, but it is very important to note that you should not do so by name. HealingWell uses screen names to protect the privacy of it's members. Some are not so concerned about that than others. But that does not mean you can't use the site to gather information and write. As the old Dragnet television program used to say "Names were changed to protect the innocent" is perfectly fine. I hope you would use common sense about using specific screen names and such. But I can see where the site could allow for study material.

Perhaps you should contact our site administration at [email protected]. I am willing to go along with anything he suggests.
