hips sore after radiation

 has anyone had problems with their hips being stiff after SR[radiation] mine are and they haven't been  before i  took rad.eyes    Bucky ga.

Bucky not sure about my hips but my lower back takes a hit from laying on that table 5 days a week. Once I get thru I will probably have to have another shot of anti-inflamnatory due to a pinched nerve around C7 which was getting better prior to rad. If you just finished it might take awhile for the soreness to stop. Good luck.

Yes, I had lots of pain going through and after completing the salvage radiation. In my hips, rear end, penis, etc. Lots of burny, achy pains that would stay with me for hours. People react differently to radiation, some feel nothing, some feel a lot.

I am at 17 down and 15 to go...

Went for my first run/walk in 4 months with some younger friends of mine...   definitely felt it in the hip joints and quads,  but expected after so long of inactivity.  It will be hard to tell what is radiation versus inactivity for a few days..  Will try to keep it up now that my attitude is fully back in the game of life now....

So far only previous side effects I had noticed were fatigue/drowsiness which is most like a combination of other meds I am taking along with the radiation.  

Will keep posting any definite SE's if they occur in my signature.

That is probably what I have been having the bruising and stiffness in the hips.  I guess it is just one of those side effects.  I plan to ask the doctor when I meet with him this week.

jerry, and to the other radiation guys, even with the highly targeted and focused methods of radiation delivery, i.e. IMRT, you can still get good old fashioned "scattering", where radiation bounces off the target and hits good tissue that wasn't intended. WHen I had mine done, they denied this at first, but as I started reporting more and more collateral damage, they changed their story and said it was possible, but there wasnt anything they can do about it. It may have been worse for me, as I had this "deep and narrow prostate bed" issue, the same one that gave my surgeon so much trouble during my surgery.

Plus as I have said all along, from past experience having been through 2 major bouts of radiation treatments in my life, everyone reacts differently to radiation poisioning, some: no bad effects, they don't even realize its happening, others; can get real sick, real sore, have all the burning like I did. Fortunatately, those of us with the bad effects are rare.

I will be be glad when, and the other fellows currently undergoing radiation are through. mine ended almost 3 months ago, and i am s till fighting the effects of radiation fatigue daily, fortunately, much of the "burn" related pain has minimalized, probably on a bad day, only hurt 25% as much as I did when the radiation ended. For that, I am thankful.

I agree with you David on the scattering, although I am no expert I can feel the impact on my body. Dont even like to wear a belt buckle in there as not sure that metal can attract the rays. My understanding is that the last 2-3 tx's I get will be even more targeted, at least according to the tech. The end is in sight but it cant come soon enough.

My uro/surgeon, who is not a radiation dr in any shape of the word, knew more about the scattering factor then my own radiation people wanted to let on at first. It was only after he consulted a time or two with my rad. oncologist were they finanlly ready to admit while I was feeling so much burn and pain. Like my uro said, he has seen it often after men have been through radiation, the radiation clinics release the patients back to the uro, and the uro has to deal with all the after effects of the radiation.
