Update:
I visited my Uro yesterday; what's left of the prostate gland, as well as the seminal vesicles were benign ("bengn prostate with atrophy, fibrosis and chronic inflammation").
Well that's really not great news, as there are no salvage treatments unless there is primary cancer in the prostate area. It does say a lot of good about cryosurgery, though, as the primary cancer was totally extinguished.
I now join the club of definite systemic cancer brothers. However, the trip to hormone ablation drugs has not started yet. My Uro says that he would not consider putting me on any drugs nor to get bone scans until my psa rises to 5-10. He said that with a psa of 1.5 bone and body scans would likely be a waste as they would probably show nothing. He also said that there is no conclusive evidence that starting me on drugs this early will lenghten my life and, of course, it would impact my quality of life at an earlier point.
I thought about all of this and woke up with the thought that I need to see a prostate or uro oncologist for a second opinion and to begin my subsequent treatments with him/her. I'm not saying my uro is wrong but he just seems to be a little too laid back for me. My wife, who works at UPMC in Pittsburgh, will find me the oncologist and I will meet with him/her after I get my next psa test in 2-3 months. In the meantime, I will do my own investigation on "what is the right time to start hormone ablation drugs."
