stream slowing down

I am 6 weeks post op and 4 weeks catheter free but have noticed in the last week to 10 days my flow has started to decrease to just a trickle. I am not forcing the urine out but it is considerably lesser than the fairly strong flow I had at first. spoke to my uro and he seems to think that it is just the incontinence getting better and says that as long as I am not having to force the issue things should resolve themseves, but my biggest worry is that things are starting to heal and maybe it could be scarring and that could end up being a blockage,I need to get up at least 3 times during the night and during the day down to about 2/3 pads but still have problems holding urine in my bladder am i just looking round corners, has anyone else got any theories that may help.

Same problem I initialy had. When stream was almost down to nothing, went in and had cystoscope. Doctor found "moderate" stricture and opened it up. Put in a catheter for four days. Catheter removed, stream fair. Within two weeks, same problem. Again the scope and this time he found it to be almost closed. Dilation in the office and catheter again. Had surgery to open up the bladder neck and since have a great stream again. The hard part is knowing when to go in to the doctor. If you wait until the stream stops, you can be in for some serious pain and possible trip to ER. My uro wants to see me at the first indication of my stream slowing down. He feels it is easier to open it up that way. David has gone through all kinds of stricture problems and can add his experience. I guess the bottom line is you have to rely on what you feel and what your doctor tells you to do. Hope it is nothing and you are "peeing free" soon. Squid.

Same thing happened to Bear.  Dr took an ultrsound and decided that he has an overactive bladder and it is not filling up enough to get a strong stream, which makes sense as he does have urgency issues.  Doctor gave him a gel to rub on shoulder daily, does not seem to help yet.  BTW Bear is 4 month post RRP.

Suggest you  keep in touch with your doctor in case it is a blockage.

I do at the moment still feel the urgency to go and my doctor has given me pills for overactive bladder and i do go sitting and standing.
which does not seem to make any difference, today i have drank loads of water and that seems to have help strengthen the flow marginally, thanks for your input i will keep monitoring the situation and try not to get blocked

Hey guys,
new to the forum as of today.I've had radical retropubic prostatectomy on 3/3/10 removed catheter two weeks later and ended up in Er that night.Could not void after I had left the Drs. office.Second catheter in for 1 week flow was good for about 8hrs and stopped,back to the Er(the pain is unbearable)No diagnostic test yet waiting for appointment on 3/29/10 ,maybe a cystoscopy to look for stricture.Otherwise all has been good, I need to get rid of this bag!! flow reduced again so went to drs office where he did an ultrasound it turns out even though flow is reduced i am still emptying my bladder all be it very slowly, but i am still fearful of the possibility of stopping altogether. so at the moment i am just monitoring the situation, when i spoke to my doctor he said that it is a fine balance as to what size to leave the opening for the bladder he tends to try to make it small in order to help with incontinence so watch this space

During my stricture problem, my uro mentioned that the small stream could help with the incontinence problem. But, when the blockage became 99%, it was time for surgery. Unfortunately, opening it up creates a great stream, but incontinence is back as a problem for me. I am working on it and hope it will get better with time and Kegels. It is a real fine balance, but when the bladder neck becomes totally blocked you enter a new world of pain. Squid.

subic, you are quite correct in your advice. my surgeon worries every time he goes up inside me, there is always a risk of making an incontinence problem where there isnt one. with 5 corrective surgeries behind me and an emergency dialation, so far so good, my problem is not solved with strictures, but I have had no incontinence issues inbetween times off the cath.

i see my dr tommorow, i have been having a lot of deep bladder neck pain for about 4 days now, i am leary to want to let him poke me or scope me tommroow, too much hurt going on.
