OK, maybe I finally have a little benefit from my PC.

For years I had BPH. Flomax worked great. Without it, I would have difficulty urinating.

Antihistamines were a big no-no; they caused lots of problems and even the label warned against taking them if you have enlarged prostate symptoms.

Anyway, I now have a miserable sinus infection and/or cold since Friday and I'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow. But, meanwhile, I'm going to take a benedryl or similar item.

MY ASSUMPTION IS THAT POST-SURGERY THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEM IS NOW NON-EXISTENT.

Correct? Anyone else in that boat (ie: unable to take antihistamine before surgery but now using it)

Mel,  You are correct with you thinking.   Could not take antihistamines after surgery  no problem.  Give it a try.

Hi Mel,

Perhaps you could give Sudafed ( behind the counter version, not PE version) a try, it contains Pseudeophedrine which for me works great when I need to get rid of nasal congestion. It also happens to be the antidote in case Trimix/Bimix erection last over 4 hrs ( never had that happen ,,so far)

I couldn't take antihistamines prior to my RRP but now they are no problem what so ever.

The Sudafed also might help with incontinence since it will tighten up the external sphincter.

Although the label plainly stated that the antihistimine (WalMart version of Claratin) should not be used if there is a problem of enlarged prostate, my allergies were going nutz and the nose would not stop dripping, so I used the anthihistime anyhow. Wow, really slowed down the ability to pee to almost a total stop. Although I'm still in possession of a big ole prostate and still waiting for my Brachytherapy procedure still a month away, I called my Uro and he told me to use ONLY a nose spray. So, I took some Zicam nasal spray and it worked like a charm. Worked for me anyhow.

I take 1 benedryl whenever I have trouble sleeping, works for me!!
