Had one done about 2 1/2 weeks ago for the urethra. Started closing again stream was more shaped like a fan and sprayed to the left. It is located about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from tip of penis, uro says it is caused from irration from the cath. This time was far more painful than the first at least ten if not moreshocked  even with the gel and valium. If we have to do this again it will be in the hospital under sedation. I'm glad it's over and it does not close up again.

Neal, sorry to read that. I hope it heals properly and you don't have to have any more procedures for it.

Neal, you know that I know how that feels, been there too many times, I know it can be a true Ten on the pain scale. Hope you get it this time, if not, have them do whatever else is needed as a day surgery like I have had done 5 times. Good luck.

Neal, still thinking about your case. If your blockage is that close to the penis tip, a little surprised that the first attempt didn't clear it up. What makes mine so hard, is that it actually at the bladder neck itself, not the urethra. The gel works good to get a scope up the penis without too much pain, though always a creepy feeling in my opinion. THe last time my guy tried to dialate me post radiation, even a 100 mg of demoral shot into my hip didn't even remotely take away the pain once he tried to dialate. It worked good getting the scope in place, but that was it. I shot to a "ten" and the more he tried, the more it hurt, so he had to abort.

Assuming you have good insurance, if, and I hope you don't need it, have to go through this again, insist on having it done as a day surgery thing. Then he can do a hard dialation if needed, and you will won't know or feel a thing.

Also curious, after this dialation, he didn't leave a foley catheter in place, to aid in the healing after the dialation? If not, I find that odd. Also, not saying he is wrong, but never heard of the catheter causing the blockage from irratation. I am on #15 and that has never happened.

I know how traumatic that was, and it will make you even more gun shy next time, that's how I am. Hope you do fine and this time it cures your woes in that department.

My stricture caused a spray to the left also!! I had two dilations, both of which were followed by four day caths to allow healing. Seems odd not to have the cath. Hope you get better soon. Squid.

It was hurting so bad one time I grab his arm and told him to stop. He got it open and we decided if there is a next time it WILL NOT be in his office it will be at the hospital. He gave me a script for Dexamethasone ointment that I put in the tip and use a little self female cath tube. The idea is for the oinment to be spread around the urethra to aid in healing. No offense guys but I'm glad mine is at the tip and not at the bladder neck. I know from what you two have been through and I don't want that road.

Neal, my friend, either way, I know it had to hurt like hell. When they did the emergency dialation last July, with a 100% blockage, it took 2 nurses to help hold me in place, while the dr .scrambled to get a tiny guide wire through the bladder neck in order to pull a catheter in place. Once he got started, there was no time to stop or administer drugs, he was a minute or so away from having me rushed to the hospital across the street for an ER room op, so I know what you mean.

Hope you are feeling better today. Me, after being on my feet about 4-5 hours today, end up with a very sore bladder neck and penis, even though the SP exits closer to my navel, hurts to walk, and have actually been bleeding more lately, which is odd after all these months , obviously, I am still not healed sufficient in that area. I thought I was seeing my uro next MOnday, but its actually the week after next.

I am thankful that most guys here don't have to deal with what we have been dealing with.

So, I have my surgery coming up next month. With all the experience we have here, is there anything that can done to avoid stricture problems or is it just one of those things that can happen?
