Ms. Aimzee & Ron,

Ask your surgeon about retropubic surgery.   Ms. Bluebirds threads are very informative about this procedure.  Retropubic recovery times are comparable to Laperascopic/DaVinci surgeries.

Concerning Ron's previous surgeries:
My surgeons spent an hour starting me on DaVinci  but due to adhesions from many previous abdominal surgeries (only got the camera through) - then had to do a "bikini cut" into the pubic cavity.  (This is a lower abdominal incision.) 
Ron's previous hernia repairs will likely have developed many adhesions that can get in the way of robotic/laperascopic surgery.

I too was just quickly logging on to look for information on Dennis Hopper's passing.

Perhaps this high profile tragedy will slow the trend to discourage testing.

I still only have internet access at work.

Look on USToo.org to see if there is a support group in his area. They might know if there are any screenings coming up in September in the local area.

Also check with local hospitals to see if they have programs. There are still a few out there.

Free tests are getting hard to find as the anti-screening forces have caused many hospitals to stop including them in men's health events.

Aimzee, how much is a PSA test around you?

I disagree with Allen. At 44 and with his dad having PCa he should ave already gotten a baseline four years ago.

I think the PSA test a quest labs is under $100.

Many hospital systems do a once a year free screening, that would be the first place I would look if money or lack of insurance is an issue.

With your husband dealing with PC, and your son being that age, I would hope he would gladly get a baseline, not only for his own use, but for you and your husband's peace of mind.

My oldest son (just turned 37), obliged me, and had a base line done at age 35 as part of a normal yearly physical. My youngest son (31) plans to do his on his 35th birthday, to make his old man feel better.
