Anybody know much on this issue? It has been shown to react negatively to grapefruit juice and if u google pom and grapefruit juice there are indicators there. Im on statins and wanted to do the Pom, based on the 1 study in SoCal with only 50 or so men. There are more positive studies on statin's as helpful against BCR, so figured id skip it , tho I would like to do both.

I haven't heard of, or can find any research studies addressing this question, but it is a good question....

I've seen studies on statins and ones on pom. Never heard of them reacting to each other. I think taking both is perfectly safe. I have been taking both for over a year.

Regarding the pomegranate study by Alan Pantuck at UCLA, it was solid science from the reading and also in discussion with a local doctor who referees journals. The issue I have is that it was paid for by the pomegranate company which controls the US production. The study was published in 2006 as a phase II. They embarked on a phase III randomised, controlled study using pom extract capsules. This provided a calculated dose for those receiving the real thing and also masked those receiving the placebo since the pomegranate juice has a distinctive taste and smell which is impossible to duplicate with placebo juice.
There has been no report from this study in four years. This suggests to me either that the study is ambiguous and had results that required more administrations, or that the results are suppressed. I strongly believe it is the latter. The Pom Wonderful brand controls the study and can do what they like with the results.
I hope to be wrong.

I am posting this cause a lot of people do pom, not sure if it does interact with statins, if you're interested there is a lot of google on the 2 together.

I am on 40mg Simvastatin for high cholestorel and also take daily pomegranate extract capsules along with my vitamin d3 and omega fish oll supplements. My total cholestorel has gone from 240 down to 147, so I cannot see any negative effects for the pomegranate extract capsules (taken midday) on the simvastatin taken in the evening.

I am on Lipitor and my script
container has a big warning not to eat or drink any grapefruit product. My research - and this is not to be taken as medical advice - is that grapefruit products contain an enzyme that interacts with the statin and can create problems. Don't know about
pom juice - I would speak with a pharmacist if you're thinking about
adding pom juice to your statin regimen.

Sephie, my wife was telling me once before, that grapefruit juice in particular, interacts with several major commonly taken drugs, and basically neutralizes the core purpose of the drugs. I will see if I can get a list of other ones she knows about
.
