At this stage (see my signature) I am noting that my continence is fine. I am calling it 100%. Pretty much no squirts.

HOWEVER, I still have quite a bit of urgency. Quite often, when I have to urinate, I am very uncomfortable until I do.

I might add that before my PC surgery I had BPH and at times it was difficult to urinate. It took awhile to get the flow going and the flow was not that great. These days, NO DIFFICULTY in starting the flow and while I am not peeing like a teenager, it is pretty good. I guess that's one improvement from the surgery.

Anyone else experience this sense of urgency??

Sounds like we're on the same track almost exactly as far as continence goes. If I stand up I may suddenly have to go badly and I do get an occasional sense of having to go sometimes just after I leave the bathroom totally empty.

The way I look at it is, things got seriously torn up in there, the nerves that signal full/empty may have got hit hard I'm not too worried at this point. If it continues, say 6 more months then I'll start to wonder if it's going to be a long term issue. For now I'm pretty happy with the way it has progressed.

BTW, same here on the before surgery, I used to have to pinch off flow to build pressure opening up the urethra to get a good stream, it happened over time and I never even thought of it as a symptom 'till I got the bad news.

The urgency is not much of a problem, but I guess it could be a BIG problem in certain situations. So far, there has always been a bathroom around when I needed one and I am aware not to let myself get in a situation with urgency sans bathroom.

I'm 8mos post op and occasionally get urgency. I have no problem holding it but at times, there is the sense of urgency!!

Hi Mel,

Since the plumbing once the prostate has been removed has changed, the mind now takes a more active role in making sure we stay dry.

Since staying dry is still a new routine that the mind needs to get used to it alerts us more when it detects that the bladder needs to be relieved

It means that all is ok

I had my prostate out 3 yaers ago, and I have had urgency since the catheter was removed. I was off pads after 3 months, but when ever I  drink something, within a half hour I will get the urge to go. If I don't go right away, the urge gets so great that I will start to drip and it gets very uncomfortable.

 I have learned to live with it and it really does not bother me much anymore.  I wish I didn't have the urge and could hold it longer, but small price to pay for not having cancer.

I was down to one pad a day, and that was damp not wet, before radiation almost 6 months out from DaVinci. The radiation kicked me in the arse, and I am back to two, but I've also noticed daytime urgency is way up, but little to pass because I'm going so often.
So far overnight has remained generally dry.
I guess things have become more sensitive after the rads, but I'm hoping to get back down to one, and maybe quit investing in Depends altogether (wouldn't that be great!)
