Hi Folks,
I am home today recovering from a incisional hernia repair. My surgeon thinks that when my RALP was done that the abdominal wall above the belly button was pulled to tight resulting in the circulation being cut off, thus causing the hernia. A side effect from RALP that I never read about
anywhere. Oh Well, there goes my beautiful abs...

If it'll make you feel any better - I had my hernia repaired before PCA surgery. And it left less of a scar then the prostate surgery.

Ricky,
Just curious....do you think too much activity/exercise/lifting too soon contributed to the hernia.
The reason I ask is that I am a little worried about
a hernia too--no physical signs of one though. I sometimes think I am pushing too hard (starting to lift heavier things and cycling more and more) and sometimes can feel the workout in my stomach area (no pain, just that the muscles are getting a bit of a workout. I have told my Uro (just today at my 6 week exam) and he said "no problem" and to keep doing what I am doing. But the incision sites are just a little tender sometimes.

The hernia is a recognized and rare operative complication. I was told this by a resident who had seen one in his staff's cases (300)

Dan,
My surgeon thought that I may have made it worse by lifting, but it was probably already there. I noticed the hernia after I had lifted a lot of heavy stones up at the cabin and carried a refrig with my son. There is a right way and wrong way to lift things and I don't always do it right. I would think that good exercise would strengthen the abdominal wall.
