Catheter Blocked - Unable to clear right now

It appears my only remaining SP cath is blocked.  Woke up from a nap, and a completely empty "big bag".  Usually sleeping makes a lot of fluid flow for me.  Been feeling weird and bloaty all afternoon prior.  Tried flushing it, and can't get anything through the cath.  Drank a bunch of water, that is suppose to help.  Several times today, while taking a bm, urine has forced itself out under pressure/pain through my penis.  I am suppose to see my dr tommorow, they may have to replace the SP tube if we can't get it flushed out.  Has me really upset, if its not one thing, its another, and if it doesnt clear up, could be a long night awake trying to keep myself releived.  I am too damaged up there to go to my local ER, no way I would trust them with this SP set up.  Hopefully it will clear through at some point.  Its only been in 16 days, no reason for it to be clogged.

Will be thinking about you....you can't get it to work and mine works too much. On average we are both OK.

As of 7 pm, still totally blocked, thats after 4 attempts at irragating the catheter, haven't had one totally block and not be able to clear out. May be a long painful night, bladder neck swollen from being forced to exit urine once it builds up.

Gee David , I feel for you......it hardly seems fair you copping it like this, one thing after another. I hope that the obstruction eases a little and you get some peace and relief before you see the doc. There is nothing worse than being in pain and exhausted to boot. But you will overcome this........it is your nature.

Can you somehow contact your urologist and maybe he can meet you in his office or the ER tonite?

How can you wait until tomorrow?

about 830 PM, have tried to irragate 6x now, including taking a long hot shower - which sometimes helps, and "milking" the cath tube where it exits my stomach area, not a drop. Embarrased to say, have on a full "diaper" as I have no idea when a major pressured relief will happen through my penis. It builds up the pressure, and I try to make it and sit on the throne, and through force, can relieve some urine. We really do not want to go and spend the night at any of the ER's in the area, to have a strange doctor/nurse dealing with this SP cath. If it were a foley, I would have to, because there would be no other way to relieve. Not sure what time my appt is tommorow, but they start seeing patients at 0800, we will call as soon as we are up, and my doctor will only be about 3 blocks away. I am sure I will told to come straight in, and he obviously will just replace this cath. Won't even take him long. I am just worried about a long night ahead, and I don't want to make a mess here at home. Got to get through the next 12 hours or so. Out of all my caths, this is the first time that irragation hasn't worked, still can't get a single drop through.

You must go to the hospital.

If urine back flows enough, it causes kidney damage.

Try calling your specialist, if you cannot contact him, go to the hospital.

Sorry but you don't need kidney damage.

Dave.. I am real sad to hear of your distress, it's just not friggen fair. But I agree with those who said you should go to the ER.. There may not be anyone there who completely understands your predicament.. but if you call ahead and explain it to ER, there MUST be a specialist they can reach to make sure you are given some relief. I would call the local ER and explain the situation and tell them you

Sorry, I must have hit a key that posted before I was done. I know that my instructions for the catheter were every clear "do not allow anyone other than a urologist remove the catheter'... perhaps you can reiterate that instruction to them at ER.. ask if there's a uro who is on duty if you come in? I hope you get some help soon.. dont wait Dave!

You are darn lucky you don't live near me. I'd be at your house with my borescope, a mini plumber's snake, and enough acoustic transducers to power an Allman Brothers concert. You can be sure I'd get that blockage out of there. Can't guarantee the integrity of any other body parts but the blockage would be gone.

So sorry you are going through all of this.

Isn't your Uro or another one from his (or her) group on call on the weekends?

I know that I would be reluctant to contact a doctor on a Sunday night, but this seems like a time when it is very necessary and TS if he is annoyed. It is why they make the big bucks.

Hey, guys, appreciate the concern. If there were no exiting of urine, we would have been in the ER before now. But urine is collecting around the cath, and when it builds enough fluid/pressure, I can relieve it. My wife is a well trained nurse, and she's helping me and monitoring me. An SP cath requires more skill in removing and replacing, as opposed to a foley through the penis. A year ago, my local ER bungled an emergency cath insertion with me, almost cause serious damage, so we don't want to do that.

Trust me, if the situation deteriorates in the night, we will be at the hospital, the ER closest to me is literally a 2 minute car drive away, and across the street from my uro's office. Its still my intention to make it till morning, then we will go to the uro as soon as they open. They will see me right away under the circumstances.

Has the wife frustrated, she had never seen a cath that wouldn't irragate free after an attempt or two, we can't imagine what could be blocking it so bad. I don't feel like the cath has shifted or anything like that, as its not hurting at all (the cath itself). I did have that one defective cath a few months ago that kept poking me on the bladder wall, and that hurt like hades.

I just wish for once I could cope a break, sure didnt need this after all I have been through in the past couple of weeks.

david - our thoughts and prayers are with you - bringing out the disco ball and playing "I will survive " for you - kinda scary though - was thinking along the ultrasonic line to break up the clot before I read Jeff's posting... great minds think alike and .... using electric toothbrush to vibrate against the SP external tube.... a rube goldberg moment....

How frustrating and annoying this latest blockage must be: to say nothing of painful, uncomfortable and worrying

Sure hope it is dealt with soon, and perhaps also that someone can tell you why it blocked so that steps can be taken to stop it happening again.

I was thinking about you yesterday while I was watching the (British) open Golf on TV as the commentator mentioned that Scott Glover was from South Carolina, as since joining HW SC makes me think of you.

Hopefully you are at the doctors and how having some relief.  How many times can you go through this kind of thing?  I will be waiting to hear that all is ok.
