I have a link article first of all that is kind of interesting about dogs and how some of them have spontaneous cancer remissions  (without drugs or Oncologists- LOL) or interventions. They say about 2% of the time these remissions happen, they are not totally sure  on the mechanism and why but mention some of this in the article. The good news is they say, studying these dogs and mechanisms may translate into humans benefitting on the findings.  We are sometimes referred to by others as dogs or given a name like snoop dog and such,  LOL...maybe we have more dog in us than we wish to admit. I don't lift my leg but probably have other dog like attributes, us alpha males even have a pack mentality, usually that is for beer and parties and fraternities (LOL). Women sometime refer to us males as dogs and being neandrathals and caveman mentality..hard wired by testostorone we a genetically pre-disposed and hey its not our fault, its the chemistry of being an alpha male. We can be tamed is the good news, some never learn which happens with dogs.(LOL)

We can lick our wounds and roll in some stink (literally), dogs do it instinctively to enhance their body smell...e.g....it is their free perfume (lol).

================================================Observations on dogs:

Hey I love dogs, I have two of them Australian Shepherd mixed and brothers from a foster home shelter scenario.  It is just to much fun having these dogs, we have a video whereby me and dogs all howl together, in like harmony session around a Christmas tree. I was the alpha male with a Davey Crockett like raccoon hat on.

 

Dogs can sniff out PCa they are claiming, perhaps we need a Lab in a lab coat, coming in to give us a dog scan or a cat held up to us and do a cat scan.  (LOL)  Maybe dogs can learn to find mets areas and then show the docs where the problem areas are?  (that would be incredible)

 

Dogs can help people recover or be good therapy in nursing homes and to anyone...you got to feel that unconditional love and maybe get a few licks unto you. A waging tail when they meet you probably even if you are an evil one could melt your heart and soul. skull - smilewinkgrin

Dogs have saved their masters, family members, used in rescues, bomb sniffers, drug sniffers, now even under water things are being done with them. New meaning to space exploration with a Astro  dog in a suit. Dogs have even instinctively saved strangers or other animals or keep someone warm in a cold climate in order to save them. tongue

 

Dogs have been bred for special task, services and reasons...herding, hunting, rodent control, protection, and even fetching beer and things  (LOL). Maybe we can get them more into the medical world, of course never for DRE that might be better served even by reese monkeys or such.(LOL)

 

I think dogs can help a person enjoy living and perhaps longer (if they are under control and not wildish types).  Lets hope these dogs teach us some new tricks in PCa research and scanning methods (lol). yeah     Perhaps our new doctors names will become:  Dr. Barkin, Dr. Wag, Dr. Wolfgang, Dr. Coats, Dr. Howell, Dr. Breedlove, Dr. Benefull, Dr. Spike, Dr. Astro, Dr. Snoopy, Dr. Marma Duke,  Dr. Choker Chan, and add your favorite!  Maybe join www.packusa for their nose for newsletters?

There are a lot of stories about spontaneous remission. I've heard it referred to as vanishing cancer. I think this happens more than we think with very low risk PC, G6<1%.
We have all heard stories about patients being operated on and no cancer being found in their pathology. I know of several cases where scans showed tumors and later scans found it completely gone. If HT can knock low grade cancer into remission I don't see why normal body imune functions can't also do this.
I know the feeling a you have about dogs, I've got two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, they are a joy and the added benefit is that they keep the lions away from the neighborhood.

Thanks for posting this, our 12+ year old Beagle/Basset hound had a cancer in his ear canal, mass was poking out and was routinely debulked by the vet, we had it biopsied in July '09 and it was determined to be very aggressive, he was given 6 months at best. As of his last visit the vet could find no evidence of cancer. Barney has other age related issues but appears to be in complete remission with no treatment whatsoever.

Sadly he refuses to divulge his secret.

Thanks John more should be analyzed on any types of remissions, we need to see if we can find evidence of a PCa patient whom either with low grade or any grade of PCa, conquered it definitively with drugs or other means, after being declared uncureable originally. Supposedly some cases exist, I would like hear from someone or read the information as to being maybe authentic. Could be very anectdotal, who cares, lets hear about it. Like as patients we don't want to hear about anectdotal, sure some docs don't want to hear it that badly...we are dying to hear about such. They only want strongly backed empirical evidence that you can bank on (some guys anyway), we patients will accept the small change and coins or scraps from the table like good dogs.

Daveshan- that is just really cool to hear from someone with a dog in the 2% class of possible remissions, maybe he didn't pay his vet bill and so the doc gave him additional 6 months to live and pay up (ha-ha). Seemed the doc might have got it all or enough, that Barney could conquer the rest. Dog gone good story anyway.

i am a skeptic on this one, how many of these "stories" are fact based, and not some kind of urbran legend type of thing. don't get me wrong, out and out unexplainable miracles with medical matters happened, and have baffled the experts for years. but these are rare, and they are definitely the exception, not the norm. and i am not talking about quacks promoting some imaginary miracle claim. people that had honest verified tumors that just plain vanished.

on these rare events, all i can do is say, "wow". that's amazing.

on the dog part, i can only handle a dog if its an outdoor dog, got a real sensitive nose, and the smell of dogs just reek to me, always been a cat person. even a freshly cleaned dog, still smells like a dog. but everyone likes something different, thats for sure. i love the independence of a cat, as you can't make a cat do anything it doesnt want to do on its one. a dog, too easy, they will do anything for a treat.
