Sonny:
h
Thanks for the interesting post and perspective on this whole issue. I think it is an issue that EVERY one of us is thinking about. Even if things look good today, we know the nasty features of PC and realize that we might have to make that decision.
I have a feeling that you are asking your doctor to answer an unanswerable question. How can he guarantee that you will be the same Sonny post-HT?? You are probably better off putting that question to the multitudes here on HW who have been on HT. In fact, I think you get prostate digest? Most of the folks there have advanced cancer and there is plenty of discussion regarding ADT. Frankly, I think you should ask that question there (when you are ready to ask it!).
I still come back to that point: what will you be if you do NOT choose HT? Assuming you let nature take its course, you could linger for quite awhile. This can be a protracted illness. What is the QOL under those circumstances?
One other thought. I think it's clear that HT would significantly extend life, perhaps for a long time, albeit at a steep cost (and I'm not talking financially, although it is certainly true in that regard). Meanwhile, hopefully, new drugs/treatments are being developed. Perhaps 8 years down the road they come up with something that will really kick ***. You do buy yourself time and maybe medical science will save our sorry butts!
