My 6-week post-RRP PSA came in at 1.7. Now, 2 months later, it's at 2.2.
I'm on track for starting HT and then radiation. At first I was holding out hope that I could somehow hold out for the soon-to-open proton beam center here in town, but there are 2 issues with that. First, my doc says he isn't aware of proton beam therapy being used for post-RRP patients (for some reason I hadn't even thought about that factor), plus it will probably be awhile before the proton beam center is open for business. That leaves me with IMRT. More about that in a second.
The first RO I saw prefered Firmagon for HT and from what I've read, it seems like the best available option. However, for IMRT on post-op patients he does not use calypso beacons. The other RO I've seen uses the beacons, but he has never used Firmagon. I decided to go with the second doc since it seems like he can do a more accurate job with the IMRT with the beacons. When I met with him this week he said he wouldn't mind using Firmagon, but I got a call from his nurse today and their hospital's pharmacy doesn't carry it. She is willing to give me a prescription to get it elsewhere, but after a round of calls today I found a couple of places that can order it, but can't promise a reliable supply each month. Because of that, I'm thinking the wisest course is probably to just go with either Lupron or Zoladex.
I guess my question at this point is whether anyone has anything to offer on choosing between these two drugs? I've done a little searching online, but I would value some input from the folks here.
