Surprising end to incontinence

My younger brother had an interesting experience with his incontinence. He had DaVinci surgery at some hospital in south Orange County, CA. He went out of his way to use a particular uro that is highly touted. Unfortunately, things did not go according to Hoyle.
He had to have emergency surgery five weeks after his prostate surgery to save his life when a length of his small intestine got to places is shouldn't through a hole left by the earlier surgery. The surgeon also found about 500cc of old blood that had not been drained before his earlier surgical drain was removed (to more closely adhere to the uro's timetable). Put simply his surgeon said his insides were a mess.
The interesting this is that fixing his insides also stopped his incontinence. He was pretty discouraged when he heard that I was off pads in 4-5 weeks and it was only a dream for him at week 5. He was continent before leaving the hospital after the second surgery at week 6 for the first one. His surgeon figured his incontinence problem was exacerbated by the mess.
Apparently the unrelated bits of our insides are more related than I thought. I wonder how other problems we know about might be the result of problems we don't know about.
