I wrote a while ago that after my RP I developed a near total blockage in my urine track which required emergency surgery to open up the opening from the bladder. This happened on New Year's weekend. Everything was working good after that but I have noticed a decline in urine flow over the last couple of weeks. I still get a decent stream and empty the bladder but nothing like the couple of weeks after they opened me up.

I am concerned I may be closing up again. Has anyone had this experience and needed a second opening operation. If so at what point did you decide to contact your uroligist?

PS: Just info for others - I was fully continent 2-1/2 months after the RP so a quick recovery is possible - unfortuantely as noted above I have other issues going on.

I have had 3 strictures within 1 yr post RP and 1 which was real serious 9 years post RP

Two of them, urologist manually dilated and third had to do rotoroter.    The last one I had was in Sept 2010.

Yes, it is possible to have strictures.  Suggest Cystoscope and review by urologist.

In Sept had emergency superpubic catherization and it was not fun.  ER. local small hospital, almost put me through ruff trying to put in catheter, finally urologist came in and had to do superpubic followed by Homa Laser removal.

The pain etc don't mess around, better to be sure no problem than problem - call your urologist for cystoscope.

I never had a normal flow after surgery, however it did not almost block as yours did. I had bladder neck surgery 3 months after the first surgery, and showed a huge difference. It's been almost 6 months since, and I have definitely noticed the flow has decreased from what it was a few months ago, but still what I would consider "normal". To me, it seems to have leveled out, and has remained the same for the last couple of months. I think it's a watch and wait scenario.

I can't discuss strictures outside of what I've seen posted here, but if I even think things might be slowing down, I'll be on the phone to the uro long before I ask any questions here.

Not to mean I don't respect everyone's opinions, but I've seen enough horror stories to call first, ask questions later.

Ask me anything you want about strictures and blockages, that is my specialty, etc. Had 6 surgeries for strictures alone, plus 2 emergency dialations and was on a total of 21 foley and suprapubic catheters during a 20 month period. Some men are just prone to them being a chronic problem. Now that I no longer have a bladder/bladder neck connected or working, its all over for me, and now get to enjoy a urinary stoma for life.

I've had two dilations and one surgery for strictures.  Since the surgery the stream has diminished slightly, but I consider it to be "normal".  My uro told me that strictures are unpredictable and a person could end up having surgery "several" times to correct the problem.  The only way to be sure is to go to the uro and get scoped (ouch!!) when it seems like you are having problems going.  Better to find out before you close up and end up in the ER.  Squid.
