Just to show that you never get to know anything, I was sent home with a squeeze tube of petroleum jelly for just that purpose. Just keep the area clean and lubed. It's unlikely that anything is infected there, or likely to become infected if you keep it clean, and any medications -- ie, antibiotics, antiseptics -- are just something else to cause contact reactions.

Yes we definitely have gotten a lot of different advice on this topic. I was told to stay away from neosporin, and was told to use bacitracin zinc at the tip and to keep it clean. It worked fine. I HATED THE CATHETER. Lots of dried blood dribble, uncomfortable gawd awful thing.
