Blood in urine two weeks after biopsy

Hi, I had a transperineal biopsy of the prostate (24 cores taken) about 17 days ago. With the first second or two of passing urine I notice it is still a darker brown colour which looks like older blood, perhaps leakage from the prostate into the urethra. I am wondering about asking the surgeon if this is normal (I know it is for the first few days) but thought good to check here first. It does seem to be slowly decreasing with time.

First rule -- your doctor can't care for you if he doesn't know what is going on.

That said, it takes very little blood to make a big change in urine color. Two weeks is still within the time before the prostate completely heals -- that is why surgeons won't operate until 8 weeks (minimum 6) after a biopsy

And you did have 24 cores taken, not the more common 6 or 7. Ask your doctor of course, but it still sounds in the normal range to me too

Sounds pretty normal. The semen is even scarier for me. Didn't excite the wife too much either.

I had 40 cores done and blood in urine was gone within a week. I agree with asking Dr. Now blood in semen is different story - seemed like it took a month.

After my 12 core biopsy, blood in urine was gone in a few days. Semen took longer to clear up. You had 24 cores taken, so will likely produce more bleeding. One thing I've learned from reading on this forum, experiences vary. Just because your urine takes longer to clear, doesn't necessarily indicate something is wrong.

Won't hurt to call you doctor and pose the question.

Yeah, you want to take matters in hand and flush your semen out a couple of times. That may help clear up your urine too...

Hi - thank you very much to each of you for taking the time to reply. As it seems as though the amount of blood its diminishing with time, and there are no other symptoms of a problem, then I am now comfortable to not annoy the surgeon and just give it more time. As Pocketman said, my experience just reflects the amount of variation amongst people who have a biopsy. Most of the literature I've seen says it should clear in 3-5 days but obviously it depends on a range of things including the number of cores, where the needles actually go and one's own unique physiology.
