So my PSA is going down --HUH? and WHY?

AS most of you know I have been here for a while.

For the newer folks, a quick recap;

DaVinci Surgery 9-2009
Radiation Therapy 12-2009
MET Radiation 8-2010

In Sept 2010 my PSA was 2.2 and then in Jan 2011 it had gone up to 3.9. RO said we would get together in May 11 to do another bone scan and see where we go from there. So in February I started doing a few things differently. Not something I am ready to discuss here because of the controversy it always seems to cause in discussions. Just something I decided on my own and with the help of my wife who is also fighting her own battle with cancer.

I wanted to track things on my own so in March I had them do another PSA test, it came back 4.2. A little slower rise than in the previous 4 months. Today I got the results from my April test, just one month from the last. PSA came back at 3.8.

That is almost a 10 percent decrease in a month. Now I am certainly not ready to claim any sort of ongoing victory yet, but if the test is accurate and not a fluke, my PSA is at least moving in the right direction.

I will know more in May when we do the test again and complete the skeletal scan and surveys.

But for now I will take the good news for what it is and celebrate like the rest of you that have something good to report.

BTW. Update on the lovely wife Lynn. She has been approved by MD Anderson, the drug manufacturer and the FDA to under go a "Single User" Clinical Trial on a new drug to fight her cancer. I found out about this drug from one of our members here who has a family member with the same cancer.

Her cancer has been extremely active lately and her recent skeletal scans show an extensive increase in bone damage. My lovely wife has shrunk from a majestic 5'11'' to 5'6" in the last 18 months, mostly caused by compression fractures in her spine. She is such a trooper and my battles certainly pale in comparison to her's.

So that's all the news that is new here on our front. Just wanted to pop in and pass the word.

Miss you all so much. But I have been taking a break and enjoying LIFE while not trying to let PCa rule my world. I am sure you understand. Love you guys and pray for only the absolute best for you and your families.

Thanks for the good news on your decreased PSA. We are always happy to hear good news from any one of the guys here. Hopefully the slide continues for you in the month/years to come.

Sorry to hear about your Lady, but hoping that the new treatment will produce positive results for her.

RO, sorry for the tease about doing "something" different, but I am not ready to post it yet til I see a few months of results. Not really ready to lay it out there for discussion. Just seems to promote to much pro/con discussion. Just consider it to be an ongoing study where the results are not finalized and ready for publication.

Good news Sonny -- whatever you are doing, keep doing it. I have probably made similar changes to you, but won't be sure of the results until 6 months have elapsed.

And here's hoping too for good results from Lynn's clinical trial.

Piano and Tony, thanks guys for the well wishes for Lynn. I sure hope this trend continues. Think I am about due for just a little good luck on this PCa journey.

One thing for sure. With the improvements I am seeing in the ED arena, I sure don't want to have to jump on the HT train anytime soon. LOL

Hero, man how ya doin? Good to hear from all of you and all the guys again. I have read a little here from time to time, just haven't chimed in too much. Seems it gets me back into the thinking about PCa again instead of thinking about how to enjoy each day to the fullest.

Any drop is good news and it doesn't matter why. May you are doing something diet wise that is helping.

Nice hearing from you again Sonny, hope all can be a good as possible. Our hopes for both of you are sent. Hey you think your PSA testings are questionable. You should have seen the wide-huge variances in like David Emerson's dual comparison PSA testings, he went to two different testing facilities and compared....the one place against the other place and on like 5 different months/5 different tests at each place.

We are talking high risk scenario and high PSa's but variances like this idea:
psa 200 vs. psa 320 (just for comparison sake...probably not his numbers). I would not have guessed that type of variance would exist. So our smaller ones don't mean all that much comparatively. This is why we monitor, monitor for psa history, velocity and doubling times. AKA- Limbo Land and Twilight Zone of PCa for patients. Fiction looks more real than PCa at times.
