Bye bye incontinence

Hi guys,

Here is my latest update on the determined fight back to full recovery. I had an open radical prostatecomy on 13th Dec 2010 after my keyhole surgery did not go as planned and i was determined to fight back, let me expain a little about me. I am long term disabled with mobility problems and had 13 rounds of surgery prior to PCa and my past experiences make a person that refuses to give in.

I set myself a goal of being dry by the time i went back to work and i went back at 15 weeks post op, well i was not dry but was only using 1 or 2 pads a day and i considered that was no worse than a woman of my age who had given birth to children so i thought that was ok and i could live with that. I have now been back at work for two and half weeks and decided to push myself harder. Well 48 hours ago i thought that i can beat this so i have been pad free for two days now and have been doing some heavy gardening and shifting some heavy rubbish and i have had no leaks. I think the big thing for me was having the confidence to just go and do it and i have to say that i am wearing a big smile right now :)))

Hi Arch,
I just decided to get stubborn with myself same as i did when i had to get up out of a wheelchair the first time, its my body and i decided to make it do what i wanted it to do. The only time i have had to concentrate this last couple of days is when i cough, thats when i squeeze the kegels and i have stayed dry. So for now it is a concious effort to stop any leaks but i know it will become automatic as i do it more.

Nicely done! I am now down to 1,yes 1 pad per day!!!! Whoooo-Hooooo!

Update on my situation 8 days after deciding to bin the pads, 4 days after stopping using pads i came home from work and was thirsty so i made a long cold soft drnk and sat outside in the sun. After about 30 minutes i went to get up to go indoors and struggled because the bench was so low, so as i pushed to get up i sprung a leak, serves me right for not going to the loo sooner instead of thinking "i'll go in a minute"
Apart from that one leak it has been good, i have found that i need to concentrate on my bladder signals more and at the first hint of wanting to pee, i go and pee. A small price to pay for being dry is just going to pee more often, but the benifits in the boost it has given my self confidence is huge :)))
