It's a quiet morning here...just me and my 4-year-old grandson.

So, I did a little math.  On the current page, the entries were viewed a total of 13,301 times.  They were replied to 610 times.  Which means that they are repleed to just 4.58%.  I don't know how those figures would compare if stretched to include a whole week, or month, but they are a snapshot.

I don't know how that compares to other forums, but to me it indicates a whole lot activity, and that not everyone feels compelled to inject their two cents, except when they think they really have something worthwhile to add to the discussion. 

I guess if you post a topic and get more than 5 percent responses, you can deduce that you've said something interesting?

I'm not sure if the Guests viewings are counted in the Views total. I suspect they are. We seem to have a large ratio of Guests to Members reading the Forum. Maybe in the 20 to 1 range or more. If Guests viewings are included, that explains part of it. The various Search engine will bring people here with just a word or two, so it wouldn't be surprising to see high view counts. Search terms like Viagra, cancer, incontinence and others bring folks here. Also, older threads which recycle back to the top can help run the total up. I haven't seen or heard anything lately, but a month or so ago, Prostate Cancer was either the most active or second most active Forum on HW. I know we are getting more people daily, more than can even be seen and welcomed at times.

I hope that each new arrival will at least get an acknowledgement of their post and an attempt to answer any questions, even if by us saying we don't know the answer, but to wait a while for someone to come along who can. Seems if the first post is ignored, then there won't be much response later, but if the first is addressed, others will join in. It just takes that initial member to start the conversation. That make sense? smilewinkgrin

Its interesting how it goes... In the early morning, I start reading posts while starting my first cup of coffee... I'm not very talkative till I've finished the first of two cups...

Some days you can't shut me up - other days  the "man of few words" take over...

And yeah, I read 'em all and contribute only if it hasn't been said.

If someone just welcomed new folks and congratulated the zero's and other good news, it could run into the hundreds per year. I try to read them all, but don't as much as I used to, so I really just skim thru, looking for the start of disputes, good news and new people. But I still don't get to everyone, but I do usually at least look at each post, even if superficially. My time available here is less than it once was, so that's the main reason. That's why I keep hinting to all the others here to become a welcoming committee, good luck wisher, and congrats giver to the everyday posts here. smilewinkgrin

I do not always log in and read a lot of the posts as a "guest". Like GTO I only reply if I have something to add to the discussion.

Perhaps some post 10x a day in an attempt to help others? Works that way too.

JamesC - it's a rare day when a new poster gets entirely missed, I always look for zero reply ones first, to make sure no one has slipped through the cracks.

Stick around for 5 years and it's easy to have more than 500 posts.

Peter started this site because he has Crohns. Until last year Crohns was the #1 forum at HW. in 2004 he added PCa. Today this forum is the busiest on HealingWell.

In fact I think HW PCa forum has grown to be the busiest on the internet. We are lucky to have some very outstanding and caring folks here. When someone comes here and posts that they have prostate cancer they are typically met with 20 or so different folks letting them know they are not alone, that someone cares, and that they can have any information that we share.

Even after four years here I can still learn something new here almost every day.

It's a beautiful thing and I am proud to be a HW prostate cancer forum member...

I just wish none of us had a reason to be here...
