One perspective on Adjuvant Therapies

And that perspective would be my own.

My blog has been updated with my adjuvant therapy story which began four years ago tomorrow. many continue to ask me about it so I decided to make it a blog post. Here is that post:

I believe in this protocol at least for the stage III guys. Also the stage 3b guys have even more ammunition to consider this protocol with recent studies showing excellent survival benefits. Back when I made this decision it wasn't well documented but to me it was logical to add therapy when I knew the odds were against me. It also made sense to kick this thing while it was down. I do understand that it will take a while to prove anything. And in my one case I might not ever prove anything. But I think it was worth it. I hated the hormonal therapy the most and I still fear the possible repercussions of the addition radiation therapy. But I am satisfied with the attack on prostate cancer and the results I have had thus far...

OK, maybe I was confused too - I read:

Casodex over Zoladex, a Lupron like drug

to mean that Zoladex and Lupron were basically the same. So I also read a comparison to things "Lupron-like".

The PCRI has for years recommended adjuvant HT or combination treatment for all high risk cases not just stage 3 guys. This is a much more aggressive recommendation than most doctors would make, but I think it has merit considering the high reoccurrance rate of high risk patients. There is still a lot of disagreement as to how long to stay on HT. Killing small clusters of cancer cells that may have escaped before they have time to turn into tumors makes sense.
