To GOP, Sonny3, JStars & adderboy,

thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, strength & hope concerning our common problem which I now share with you all. GOP, you're right about Health Care in a sense. Because I live in Quebec I can't have my surgery anywhere else in Canada because Quebec is the only province who did not sign the Federal Bill of the Canadian Health Act. Quebec sets it's own payment scale which happens to be the lowest of all the provinces therefore most provinces will not take Quebec patients. But I digress.

adderboy a fellow Canuck knows what I'm referring to here. So, I have an appointment with my urologist this coming Friday & I decided to have open surgery/prostatectomy. I just can't shake the feeling that it's the right/safe thing to do.
From everything I've read & all of the great feedback which I received my chances of eventually going back to a somewhat regular life seem pretty good. My urologist has a very good reputation as a surgeon & is well known in the region.

Again to all of yous, many thanks. If there's a silver lining to this disease it's discovering that there are great people in this world, something I sometimes forget. I'm not an overly religious man but needles to say I've been praying a bit lately & I'll make a prayer for all of you also. God bless.

- this is a great place isn't it... HW and its information and patient to patient support has been very helpful for me ....
-as a participant in OHIP (Ontario health insurance plan) I was not aware of your separate Quebec status ( inside joke).
-very pleased you are happy with your surgeon
-keep us informed and don't hesitate to ask any questions,

Hi Bob,

I'm on the West Coast and had my open in 2006. No problem. Was in the hospital for 3 days with minimal discomfort. Wishing you all the best in your journey.

A heartfelt thanks to all of you. As I've stated before, just knowing I'm not alone & reading how others are dealing with this disease helps my outlook/perspective & is half the battle won. The support from every individual whith whom I have shared so far is in some way part of my life & will be part of my recovery. God Bless. :-)

Again, best of luck to you. Statistics are on your side. You will live to be an old man. I know you will get good care. I just hope the go*da**ed government doesn't give you too much hassle. One of our greatest Presidents once made a comment that too many Americans no longer remember: "Government is not the solution to our problem. Government IS the problem." That has never been more true than it is today.

But before I get lectured for making political statements, let me once again wish you the best. PC is not the end...not by a long shot. I hope you believe me when I tell you that my life is actually better now than it was prior to my 2008 diagnosis and the subsequent (2010) treatment.

You will die of old age.

- that is one of the most comforting facts of HW is that it helps to reinforce "I AM NOT ALONE" and in many cases, "IT WILL GET BETTER"....

-the benefit I have with my work at the garden centre is that our customers range fro 4 months old to over 80 years old...

- two days ago, I was chatting with a couple and our conversation about Prunus Cistena drifted - via my awareness pin on my suspenders- over to my fundraising through my artwork and this lovely couple, (in their late 70's) revealed that the wife was a 19 year survivor of Breast Cancer and the husband was a 16 year survivor of Prostate Cancer.
She noted how pleased that FINALLY there was some advertising and information out there for Prostate Cancer -and we were all in agreement that more has to be done to promote the awareness and support the trials that helps those in need.

-and for me, (and sharing with with you and others on HW), meeting these people reinforce "THERE IS HOPE"
