Open RRP-radical retropubic prostatectomy first thing tommorrow-Aug 5

Thanks all. G6, yes, I knew it was large and that is why I went with open RP. Looking forward to toasting with you Cyclist. I was supprised to be told I could take Ibuprofen after surgery. I was told to stay off prior. And yes, it did the trick as I think it is working better than the narcotics. Bloating and gas pains have been the worse so far, so hoping that will improve in the next day or two. I filled up a 2000cc bag last nite (6 hours), so I hope I am not drinking to much. I cant wait to feel good enough to switch to the smaller bag and walk down the street.

Definitely the bloating and gas were the worse part for me as well. Day 6 for me and the plumbing is working pretty good now. Once I started with regular diet, I took a stool softener two times a day and continue to drink ample fluids. Since day 2, I have been taking a couple of walks outside a day. I have chosen to keep the night bag on for the walks and just place it in one of those long drawstring backpacks that can easily be carried just below my basketball shorts leg line. For me, I prefer not to go through the hassle of changing bags back and forth. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as drinking too much or not, but I usually am in the neighborhood of 1000 to 1500 cc in a six to eight hour period at night.

Soon we will be back to living the good life again. Continued good wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

Hey Terry, Austin is definately a fun town. I really dont live anywhere. I am domiciled in Texas, but live in a motor coach. I am considered a young fulltimer. I have been in the San Antonio area for a few years and was lucky enough to be invited by my ex-wife to stay with her during my surgery recovery. She will tell you, I am a nut, because I cant stay put. I had my surgery at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital. Its not the most modern hospital, but the staff far outweigh that. I did go to Houston MD Anderson for confirmation of my DX, but am very glad I came back to SA. I visited Mobil once and plan to pass through again some time. Thanks for the advice on the softner, cause yeah, I was ready to stop already, but will give it a few more days on your advice.

Hey Cyclist, glad you and I are so close in our surgery timeline and age. Soon, we will both be toasting our seats at the club. Would you please describe this backpack you are using a little more? No way I going to carry my bucket in public.

Startech - the "backpack" is a bag that is becoming the replacement for shopping-bag type giveaways at trade shows. about 24" square, with a drawstring top, with the tails of the drawstrings attached to the bottom to make a handle/strap.

I used a cloth shopping bag. The tube going into the bag is a dead giveaway, though. I went into a store, where they told me I had to leave my bag at the service desk. I slopped it up on the desk, pulled the half-full cath bag out, and handed the shopping bag to them. "Shock and Awe" had new meaning.

They decided I could carry the shopping bag.
