I dedicate this 12,000th post

Noticed earlier that I was about to hit my 12,000th post at HW.  I would like to dedicate this post and milestone to every Prostate Cancer victim that has perished from this terrible cancer.  To their wives and loved ones, to their caretakers, to their doctors, to all those that cared for them in their fight for survival.

Despite many improvements in the past few years, far too many men are still dying every day from Prostate Cancer.  We need better diagnostic tools, less invasive and more effective primary treatments.  We need to see more money for serious research.

I view each brother who goes down in death from Prostate Cancer, as a true warrior, a champion. We fight hard to stay alive, and often are willing to do whatever it takes to extend our lives once with cancer, but unfortunately, that is not always enough.  Men will keep on dying, despite the bravest of fights, the toughest of battles, and the best of the best treatments.

I can only hope and pray that one day, it can be better controlled, and this terrible death toll can be greatly reduced.

To those brothers that have died, and are yet to die, I salute your courage and strength.  May peace be with you.

David, how can one respond to your emotional and courageous post. It too brought tears to my eyes.  I am relatively new to this forum but have heard nothing but praise and love from other members about you and your fight against this terrible disease that men still do not want to talk about.

 

The start in fighting this disease is education about how easy PCa is to detect and cure when found early. If every one of us would dedicate their lives to talking about PCa with their friends, colleagues and acquaintances more men would be diagnosed earlier and earlier and more lives will be saved. I do a lot of of networking for my business and now when I am in front of a group of both men and women one of my first questions is "when was the last time you, your husband, your father, Grandfather or other male family members had their PSA blood test" I am amazed at the number of men close to my age who still have no idea what I am talking about, but when I am done they tell me they will get screened very soon. Last week I was asked at one of my meetings if August is PC awareness month?  I responded "every month for me is PC awareness month"

David I look forward to your 25,000th and 50,000th post in this forum as I believe you are an inspiration for us all.

thanks galileo and aimzee, i was along thinking about things last night, and was having a rare emotional moment, why we all want victories in our cancer battles, its sad that we know in our heart of heart, that there are those among our cancer that don't make and won't make. Not tryin to dwell on the negative, but focusing on the reality.

water guy, i appreciate the thought in your post. i agree with your completely. most men that know me locally, simply don't want to think about or talk about the subject, they feel bad for me, but dont want the details, i sometimes think they are afraid that cancer is contagious. if each of us just here, manage to influence several men in our walks to at least get a baseline psa test, i feel that a mission has been won. in my method, i don't openly try to force a conversation on the subject, but my mind is open at all times for the opportunity, and if one comes to me, i jump on it. i would love to be more vocal about it, or speak publically on the subject, but unfortunately, in real life, i am a social butterfly, don't like being in the public eye. thanks again

In total honesty, quantity here has never been a goal or the object of my desire, I have been a writer all my life, and its the medium i can open my heart and mind best. try reaching me by phone, and for those here that have, its obvious that i am not as at ease as i am when i write.

thanks mag, your posts have helped me before as well, i can always count on you. the quantity means nothing to me, i look for comfort from posts written from the heart, that is the most important thing to me.

geezer, you are quite right too, each PC death is a one by one tragedy, not newsworthy, unless sometimes when it involves a celebrity. but all those one by ones, add up to a lot. The PC deaths in this country are almost 2x the size of the small city I live in. And that's just from PC, not all the myriad other cancer victims out there.

mel, thanks. you are a great contributor your self, and you have had your share of personal setbacks and disapointments as well, we are not alone in this great fight
