I just realized that this poll was started when we just began our journey at MD Anderson. Apparently I voted, but didn't realize it was acceptable for ladies to post on behalf of their men back then. I am much wiser now in ALL things PCa... :)

Age 49 diagnosed at Stage IV with a PSA of 57.

PSA 5 years earlier revealed a 4.6... unbeknownst to us!

Tony, no doubt a question of Internet use.

But what I find interesting here is that close to 49% of the people in this poll fall in the category of those that shouldn't be tested under new AUA guidelines unless they have family history or symptoms.

It would be interesting to know how many had neither at the time of testing.

DX Oct. 3rd, 2012, was 62, turn 63 Oct. 28, 2013, and what a ride. God has helped me through these past few months. Have really enjoyed this site as well.

I had my scheduled AdVance sling procedure performed on 1July2013 by Dr. Greg Barme' at Hoag Hospital Irvine, CA. as an outside patient. I was instantly continent and walked to my car after the 30 min procedure and remain continent 1.5 years later. Peeing is normal. I occasionally use a micro pad inside my shorts to catch the few drops when very active. I'm extremely satisfied with my outcome.

I'm now 77 yrs. old and exercise regularly. No more Kegels which I feel was a waste of time and money at my age.
Also, my PSA is >0.1 at 4 years. I have continuing 6 mo. PSA checkups with my urologist and surgeon, Dr. Erik Pasin. My PSA remains clear.

PS Dr. Pasin assisted Dr. Barme' at my sling procedure (for which Dr. Barme' is noted). I suggested this and they both agreed. Dr. Pasin remains my personal urologist.

I was 73 when diagnosed in Sept 2011
Had Da Vinci surgery Dec 2011. Successful. >0.1 PSA @18 months.
No ED problems.
Have been incontinent to present time. 1-3 pads/day. Cystology tests indicate I'm a good candidate for a sling or AUS. Smooth urethra, weak sphincter (but functioning) and a healthy bladder.

I think I'm too old for an AUS. I'd hate to give someone else the responsibility for my peeing, if I'm unable to handle it myself in 10-15+ years. Who knows what age 90+ will bring, if I hang in there that long?
I've evaluated slings and zeroed in on the AMS AdVance male sling. If it doesn't work out, my uro indicates that it can be removed and an AMS800 AUS placed in a second single procedure.

I'm scheduled for my AdVance sling procedure 1July2013 at age 75. I've been cleared by my cardiologist as I am in pretty good health and walk hilly 3 mile stints, 3 times a week. I was a daily jogger since age 30.

I followed Worried Guy's successful journey with his AdVance sling. It was quite helpful, especially in setting my own expectations. I thought I might do a thread for my Journey to give other candidates an idea of how this works out for an older guy like me. Should I start a new thread or tag on to his? It's still active.
I'd like member feedback within a few days so that I can start. The first of July is coming up soon.

I find it extremely amazing that 25% of all men who answered the survey are under 50. This number is immensely higher than any of the stats I have ever read about people being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their 40s one fourth is far from an extremely rare occurrence. I do realize this is a small sampling of people however. The number is what it is. What I would also be very interested in seeing is what are the associated Grecian scores by age group as well. Many papers theorized that prostate cancer is aggressive and young man and some say it's not it would be curious to see exactly what the average Gleason score is by age group as well.
