It might be a little ingenuous, but I would have just made the presumption that the cancer was so limited that it did not show in the slices, and that I have one less problem behind me.
The knot in one's brain over "did I do the right thing" is rarely resolved in PCa, so often best not thought about.
If it were my friend, I think I would just support what he wants to do, and not try to get too deeply into it. I suspect that any answer - whatever - won't resolve anything. If it wasn't his biopsy slides, by some mixup, he might have grounds for legal recourse, but that doesn't undo what has been done.
