Hello all,

I've already discussed with you about my friend's situation of pT0 (Vanishing prostate cancer phenomenon).
A reminder: Biopsy showed carcinoma in 1/12 prostate tissues, Gleason score 8.
Very large prostate size (about 120 gr).

He is determined to do a DNA test to check if there is no mix-up with his biopsy.
I've read an article about this phenomenon, and they suggested "polymerase chain reaction– based microsatellite marker".

I didn't understand if it's a DNA testing or something else?
Will really appreciate it if someone could explain, and if someone had an experience with this biopsy identity testing and can share his incidence..

Not sure I'm following you.

Is your friend going to have blood drawn and a DNA test done - and then have a DNA test done on the biospy sample to make sure they match?

Sounds expensive to me. Might be easier to have another biopsy done somewhere else and compare it to the first biopsy.

Yes, DNA of the blood, to compare with DNA of the biopsy.

It might be a little ingenuous, but I would have just made the presumption that the cancer was so limited that it did not show in the slices, and that I have one less problem behind me.

The knot in one's brain over "did I do the right thing" is rarely resolved in PCa, so often best not thought about.

If it were my friend, I think I would just support what he wants to do, and not try to get too deeply into it. I suspect that any answer - whatever - won't resolve anything. If it wasn't his biopsy slides, by some mixup, he might have grounds for legal recourse, but that doesn't undo what has been done.

Vanishing cancer is more common than one would think, It is common in G6 cancers, but this is the 1st I've heard of a G8. The cancer doesn't really vanish, but is so small and is most likely cancer clusters that appear on a biopsy. Most men have these clusters that have not yet formed into tumors and they may never form into a tumor. If you biopsy enough you will find them. I had one in the peripheril zone that was never found again when the spot was rebiopsied three times and never appeared on several scans that clearly showed my primary cancer in another location.
I would 1st have the original biopsy slide reread to see if it was truely a G8. I can understand your friend's concern having to undergo a major operation for a possible non problem. I would be seeking some answers and possible legal action if I were in his position.
