Our one year anniversary and hello from Bordeaux

Hello all,

I haven't posted for the last month as we have been on our long awaited six week holiday through New York, Ireland, France and Spain will be next. Having a fabulous time. Lovely to be able to forget about prostates and work for a while.

Today is exactly 1 year since the RP and therefore this is an important day for us. We remember what a stressful time we were having last year. This morning we visited an ancient cathedral and although it was a tourist visit I took an opportunity to say a prayer for Paul and for the year coming and to say thank you for getting through last year.

We will be coming back to Sydney in two weeks and Paul will be getting his psa tested. Then we will be going to the uro for the 1 year appointment. I am a little apprehensive about both and really hope that Paul's psa will stay stable.

Even though I haven't been posting, when I get to the Internet, I do check how everyone is going. This forum is an amazing place and I am proud to be a part of it.

Thanks for the update.  As you know, it's also my one-year anniversary of surgery, and Beth and I are having a great time visiting our daughter and her family in Washington DC. 

Today we visited the WWII memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, and other well-known sites and then went to the Natural History Museum at the Smithsonian.

While at the WWII memorial, we  happened upon former Senator Bob Dole, who I guess is there frequently to welcome Honor Flights of veterans of World War II.   I was able to walk up to him and thank him for his service to our country and mentioned to him that it was exactly one year ago that I had surgery for prostate cancer.

He told me his surgery was 12 years ago, and he asked how I'm doing.  I was honored to be able to have a minute with and have my picture taken with one of the nation's better known prostate cancer survivors.

Anyway, congrats to you and Paul.  Good luck with the upcoming PSA test, and I'm always glad to find that you have posted something here.  Bill

You are one lucky couple! All I drink is Bordeaux...and you have it all right there....Enjoy the vaca and congrats on your anniversary! :)

What a great way to celebrate your anniversary. No travel this summer for me after my May diagnosis. Now schedule for open radical prostatectomy the second week of September and hope to emulate your trip on my first anniversary. Enjoy!!

Well hello An,
The one year mark is a milestone for you both and here's to Pauls' PSA continuing to be undetectable when you return to Oz. My,oh, my, the holiday sounds truly great. Now really get my envy juices going by telling me that the ancient cathedral you visited was Cathedral Notre Dame in Chartres. When in Spain, if the Alhambra is on your visit menu then I really will be jealous.

Thanks guys and clock nut, one year for you too!

It's nearly 4 am here in France but tonight I have insomnia.

Billy, the ancient cathedral was the Mont St Michel in Normandy. We drove down to Bordeaux this evening. Mont St Michel was built on an island small enough to be called a very large rock just off the coast in the 11th century. It's linked to the mainland by a causeway. After weeks of listening to audio tour guides I 'm starting to sound like one! In Spain we are visiting Bilbao and Barcelona.

Frackme, good luck with the surgery. It is good to have something to look forward to, so we hope to hear your plans for next year once the surgery is out of the way.

While in Barcelona at least walk by the Sacra Familia Church (it will be something different in Spanish, just my Italian invading here), and pick some other Gaudi buildings. I only had a few days there, and most was work.

I'll be at two years in October.

An great reading your post. Pat and I hit the road on Sept 5 for a 1 month road trip that will bring us to the GFMPH at Worried Guys house. In Oct I will click off 3 years. How time fly's when your having fun.

Do enjoy the vino!.
