New to the club, but have been following HW for about a month. Had robotic surgery with Dr. Patel, in Florida on 7/8/11. Seven week psa 2.02. rest of stats below. my question is do you think its to early to start HT and SRT? and how long before side affects kick in with HT? Thanks for your input.

So sorry you have to join our club and welcome at the same time. If you have been monitoring this site for a month I am sure you already know the answer to your question. Also you should have seen with your stats PC  is still survivable and you can  have many good years ahead of you. I am not an expert nor a doctor but IMO I think you need to consult with a PCa oncologist for any future treatments. 

You now have many PC brothers who can share their personal PCa journeys and who are all pulling for you. :-)   Nothing but the best to you.

Tim, welcome to HW. You have found a great place for support and good information.

Your PSA at 7 weeks is surely a concern, especially with your path report. My question to you is whether you have a good PCa Oncologist on your team. You mention your surgeon, but who are you seeing for the follow-ups and ongoing treatment for the future?

You will see many discussions here about SRT, HT and the time to start. Opinions vary greatly on this topic, each PCa case is different and there are no clear cut definitive guidelines.

As you can see from my signature line, I too have a rising PSA. This is after surgery, SRT, and MET radiation. At present I am not on HT, but my onco and I are monitoring everything very closely.

Welcome aboard Tim,

  I was always under the impression that HT was recommended for those who were at a high risk of the cancer cells spreading to other parts of the body and/or as a compliment to RT or when other treatments have failed. The primary purpose of the HT is to starve the cancer cells and make them less resistant to radiation and to keep further cells from spreading. Again, I'm no Doctor but this is my take on all the information I have gathered......good luck!

With your current post surgery PSA numbers, I also believe HT & RT would be an excellent combination of treatment.  There has been a lot of discussion as to which one should be first, HT or RT, but I think most would agree that one or both should be your next step.  You have not completely healed from your surgery so I would wait at least another month before having any type of RT.  You should also be looking for an Oncologist that specializes in PC to guide you in the future.  Your Uro has used everything in his tool box and its time to look for someone with more experience of dealing with your stage of PC.  I am about 7 years ahead of you on this road we are traveling, and it hasn't beaten me yet, so hang in there.  Wishing the best for you and your family.......
