I would normally agree with "fair is fair," but they totally failed to be "fair" on the front end. This man had to jump through hoops and loops to get them to be "fair."
To ask him to go into work now seems a little to little and a little to late.
Besides, if he had to go into work, then technically there would be no real penalty to the company for their "dispicable conduct." Not to mention the potential hostile environment he would most likely have to deal with.
Just my unsolicited two cents... :)
