Post seeds, 2 month PSA drop from 7.4 > 1?

I had been diagnosed with Prostate cancer 3 years ago Gleason 3+4 T1c very small prostate cancer on side and I opted for seed implant

PSA was 3.8 before implant and after implant 3.5. For the next 2 1/2 years the PSA moved up slowly to a high of 7.4 That was June. The Doctor suggested we might have to look into homone therapy or freezing prostate
as it looked like the seed implant was a failure. We decided to take one more PSA about 60 days later. Results the PSA dropped from 7.4 to under 1. I am confused ! Can a PSA drop that much in 2 months without
taking any medication or having any other treatment for the prostate being done. The Doctor has no idea why it dropped, but I guess my concern is what if we had proceede with hormone therapy or freezing we would have missed this drop. My concern could it have dropped that much or could it have been somneone elses PSA test

Wow!  I think I would be wanting a re-test to confirm that sudden drop.  I sure hope it's for real.  What a great feeling that must be.

Have you been doing a lot of praying lately?  Do you believe in miracles?  Whatever happened, I hope it's down and stays down.  I sure hope it wasn't some weird lab error. 

I'll be interested to see what some of the more knowledgeable guys, the guys who've seen just about every twist and turn PCa can take, have to say about this.

Welcome to HW. It really is demoralizing to think a treatment failed. I would be first to say get another PSA run. No point in those questions being asked.

A wild speculation could be that you had an infection that cleared up on its own, or due to meds being taken for something else apparently unrelated, or that you had not been following the "no sex, no bicycles, no aggravating the prostate for 48 hours before PSA" rules, and the tests had always been artifically high.

I'd ask for a re-test.

I have already scheduled another PSA for the first week of October and we will see
I just can't believe that for almost 3 years my PSA has been coming back between 4 - 7.4 rising and then it drops to under 1 in 60 days. i have been following all the rules for 3 years

Could it be they reported to me the WRONG TEST results or someone else's? They wouldn't do that would they?

I will let you know what is happening

Typically after radiation/seeds the PSA will slowly, but significantly come down and then flare back up somewhere between 18-36 months and then start down again. The flare is to be expected. However I would have expected your PSA to have reduced considerably in the time since treatment rather than going up. It could be that your flare worked a little differently.

I would stay on top of this and test frequently to see if this reduction is the real thing. You are still looking for a nadir of <.2 PSA and then stay there for the brachytherapy to be considered successful.
