12 Week post op PSA test

 Hi Everyone

 

I received the results of my second post op (12 weeks) PSA test, < 0.01 ng/ml.

 

My previous result (6 weeks) was 0.01 ng/ml. Can anyone tell me how they differentiate between 0.01 and < 0.01? I didn't think the level of detection was that sensitive. Is there any real difference? Of course I am happy with the result, but was just wondering whether I have a measurable reduction.

 

One other issue I would like to ask you all:  I have some numbness in my groin area, just over the right pubic bone. The left side is ok. Anyone got any idea on this. It has been present since the surgery. I will follow up with my Uro when I see him again in January. Otherwise I am not travelling too badly. Completely dry and ED around 50%.

congratulations on another solid "zero" on your psa. that's a good way to start out post surgery

the pain you describe should fade over time, my doctor use to tell me that often post surgery, i had open surgery, and he
was right, as it took the best part of a full year before a lot of real and phantom pains subsided with me.

Congrats on the PSA. May it be smooth sailing for you for now on. I still have a little pain also. It went away for about 2 weeks and then just came back. Its not a constant pain, but throbs at times.

I had "ghost" pains for a couple of months, and a few lingered beyond that. But always ask your uro/surgeon about any question at all.

Some PSA tests/equipment are good to .003 (or so I saw on the Siemens equipment site).

Undetectable and dry at 12 weeks! That's a great report!

Mathematically, of course, there is a difference. Your first reading was 0.01 while your second reading may have been 0.009 ----- a difference mathematically of 0.001 but for all practical purposes as far a PSA reading is concerned there is no difference. Did you get the readings done at the same pathology lab? This infinitesimal difference is well within the result variability a test run on the same sample would produce.
