Hello, I am relatively new. There was a link to a site for men with chronic prostatitis but since mine started in August of this year, I don't think it applies to me. My infection followed a biopsy despite taking antibiotics before and after the procedure. I also have cancer and it will have to be removed but that is another issue. In addition to loosing a little more weight to make the operation safer, having the infection completely gone will increase the chances of retained sexual ability following prostate removal. My level of cancer is not so great that it needs to be removed immediately but nor can i wait years. Tentatively it is planned for early Spring.
Following the biopsy, I experienced blood in the urine for a week or two. It diminished and I got up the nerve to see if there was blood in my ejaculate. There was, but ejaculating did not produce any discomfort. For the most part, I felt normal but during several weeks after I was hesitant for my partner to "complete" me orally because it did not seem right. I equated it to orally satisfying her when she was having her period.
After another week or two, I began to feel lousy, headache, etc. Frequency and urgency to pee increased. When I did pee there was a sensation, (I don't know whether to call it burning or not). It felt like I was forcing. My temp went up to 101, then to 102. Doc put me on Cipro and symptoms decreased. After taking a 15 days of Cipro the symptoms returned in a few more days. This time, I was on Septra for two months. During this time, all symptoms abated and frequency of peeing was close to what it was before biopsy. No other discomfort was experienced with ejaculating.
Now, 20 days after stopping Septra, symptoms have returned again. Doc gave me another RX for Septra but after talking to him, he said to hold off and get a urine culture. I went to the lab and gave a urine sample on Monday. This will hopefully identify the strain of infection and perhaps alter the antibiotic. Results won't be in for a few days. I started on Septra immediately after giving the sample because my temp was high and i did not want to wait a week for relief. The Septra brought down my temp. In addition to the "sensation" when I pee, there is a uncomfortable feeling in my rectum. My bowels are not stopped but it feels uncomfortable when i go. I've been drinking lots of water with the idea of "flushing" however, the only flushing of the prostate that i am aware of is ejaculating. I tried that yesterday with my partner but had to tell her to stop because as I began to build towards an orgasm, it hurt. It felt like a sore muscle that was trying to contract. I also lost my erection quickly.
I am sitting here at my computer and it feels like I have to make a bowel movement as if there is a quantity of feces in my rectum even though I went 1/2 hr ago.
Is this normal?
