Natural Progesterone Cream????

Has anyone tried to use natural progesterone cream to treat a rise in PSA?

I have heard from one man that used it. He had PC surgery and after about three years his PSA started going up like mine has. Every time he went in it was going up, then after using a cream with natural progesterone in it, the PSA stopped rising and has stayed steady for over two years.

He is using Menogest cream (contains natural progesterone) which women use for menopause symptoms.

I am interested in that path also.

I have read about the gel and the patches but understand that most doctors are not interested in prescribing them.

No money in it you know.

I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has information.

Sounds like an "ask the doctor" opportunity. Meyers and other well known PCa oncologists often have a forum on their websites where such questions can be posed.

This is also the kind of thing the both Zufuz and Ralfinaz seem to find out about. Maybe one of them has some information.

I recently, about two weeks ago, started using Menogest (natural progesterone) cream. I put it on my wrists (pulse points) twice a day.

I asked my surgeon about it and he said that there is no clinical trials that prove it's effectiveness in slowing down or stopping the rise in PSA, but he said it should not hurt to try. I go back in March, so I will see if my PSA has slowed at all.

I have a friend of a friend whose father had a similar case to mine. His PSA started going up about 3 years after his surgery as well. It was going up every time he had it checked. It went up from undetectable to .6. He started using the cream two years ago and I am told that it has not progressed over the last two years over .6. One case is not a lot to go on, but after looking into it on the internet I have found a lot of information that seems to be supportive of this claim, so I am going to try it and see if it may help me.

Sorry, this cream is just another attempt at "snake oil" from a PC perspective. There are no magic cures or spells for dealing with PC. Will it hurt to try, probably not, will it help, probably not. So what's the real point?

Here is a link to an old HW thread that mentioned progesterone: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=35&m=1121374.  It appears the poster may have had some luck with it.  Dr. Scholz also mentions progesterone in his "Prostate Snatcher" book as an effective treatment for hot flashes.  Keep us posted on how things go.

Progesterone and other derivatives such as Depo Provera are used to reduce the incidence and duration of hot flushes caused by androgen deprivation. Progesterone is a natural inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase that is an enzyme that converts testosterone to the more potent dihydrotestosterone(DHT). As such it could slow down PCa progression in some cases.

The problem is much more complicated given the complexity of prostate cancer. Prostate tissues have many steroid receptors. Progesterone receptors alpha and beta have been identified in prostate tissues. Depending on the mixture, progesterone cream could help or cause progression. Since it is something that if negative can be reversed easily (by stopping application) if PSA starts rising, it is something to consider without major risk.

Hi tedgard, any updates on the Progesterone cream?
I have just had injections to inhibit my testosterone, but have just read a whole heap of clinical trials that indicate that testosterone is not the problem it is more the estriol (estrogen) and that natural progesterone cream can reverse PC.
My PSA has been rising gradually for some time and just recently took off. My previous PSA in May was 47, I have been taking a number of supplements (Black Seed Oil, Prostacaid, Pectosol C, Avemar) and was surprised that my August PSA had dropped 1 point to 46 (expected it to be around 60). Not sure if having Firmagon Testosterone inhibitor was the right move. BTW I was given the all clear on an MRI in June 2012 (misdiagnosed, thus the rising PSA without action)

Age 55
Feb 2013 PSA 31
May 2013 PSA 47
PSA is 46 (August 2013)
Gleason Scale 4+5 4+4 9 cores out of 16 positive T3C
Scans did not indicate invasion of lymph nodes or skeletal spread.
No symptoms
